Basically Unknown to replace Empire at DreamLeague finals

After they announced their disbandment last week, Basically Unknown decided to stay together for one more LAN event as now they are basically replacing Team Empire at DreamLeague Season 3 which will be held at DreamHack Summer, Jönköping, Sweden between June 13-16 .

The last couple of days have been quite uneasy for DreamLeague Season 3 LAN finals as both Team Empire and Vega Squadron found out they won’t be able to attend the event due visas problems. Team Empire was one of the four teams directly invited to the online League stage and they qualified for the LAN finals with the most amount of points, tied up with Virtus Pro.  However, they announced on June 4 their withdrawal from the LAN finals because of the continuous visa issues, this being the second LAN event that they are missing after they had to drop from jD-MLG Pro League season 2 for the same reason.

First option for the replacement was Vega Squadron, who also participated in the online League but finished in seventh place, just missing their chance for a shot at the $146,159 prize pool as only top six make it to Dreamhack. Being asked by the organizers to replace Team Empire, Vega Squadron said they are left with too little time to secure their visas therefore they will not be able to attend the LAN finals. Next in line seemed to be Basically Unknown who placed last in the League’s online playoffs but their line-up is composed entirely by European players who can travel passport-free within the European Union borders.

Even though Basically Unknown made the announcement of their disband last week now they decided to stay together and take the trip to Sweden, to replace Team Empire in the DreamLeague LAN finals.

Participating Teams:

  1. Russia Virtus Pro
  2. Sweden Alliance
  3. Europe Burden United
  4. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas
  5. Ukraine Natus Vincere
  6. Europe Basically Unknown

As a direct result of losing Team Empire from LAN finals, all other teams will move one seed up into the bracket. This now have Alliance being promoted from the first phase bracket to the second bracket, where Empire would have played. During the first day, rank three to six of the online league plays in a double elimination bracket to settle which two teams move on the phase two.
