In the concluding match of the Canada Cup Season 5, the North American Rejects edge out Boreal eSports by one game to take home the $7,000 first place prize.
Yesterday saw a 3-2 victory by North American Rejects against Boreal eSports in the Canada Cup Season 5 grand finals and marked the end of this month long online tournament. With this victory, NAR will receive the first place prize of $7,000 whilst Boreal eSports will have to content themselves with the $3,500 second prize.
Prior to the grand finals, NAR did not drop a game and walked into the grand finals as the clear favorites, having earlier 2-0'ed their two possible opponents, Wheel Whreck While Whistling and Boreal eSports. This is also reflected in the betting odds for the grand finals, with it being 75% to 25% in favor of NAR.
Boreal eSports also had a similar performance to NAR prior to the grand finals, managing to 2-0 teams up till their game against NAR in the winner bracket finals where they lost 2-0; in the losers bracket, they faced off with Wheel Whreck While Whistling and their 2-1 victory, they secured a spot in the grand finals.
One of the more surprising result of this tournament is the early elimination of Summer's Rift, they lost to NAR 2-0 in the winner's bracket and then was eliminated by eHug 1-0. The loss can be considered an upset with Summer's Rift having the more experienced players like Braxton 'Brax' Paulston and a better track record against eHug, having 2-0 them earlier in the bracket.
