The €5,000 Mountain Trail Challenge starts tomorrow, providing a great opportunity for tier two team exposure. Each group lasts a day, making it easy to follow.
Several noteworthy up and coming teams will be participating in the Mountain Trail Challenge, such as Basically Unknown, London Conspiracy, Vega Squadron, 4clovers, Balkan Bears and PowerRangers who recently completed their roster after months of stand-in usage. The format is simple but efficient, four groups with four teams in each, playing best of one round robins. The top two of each group advance to the double elimination playoffs.
Each group is played through in full during the duration of one single day, having all matches scheduled after one another. The playoffs then starts May 16th. This one of several tournaments targeted for tier two teams that has been surfacing lately, without being either a short single bracket tournament or holding a somewhat insignificant prize pool. Two other tournaments within the same field are the Think Fast Cup with an offline playoffs and the Yard Fest, each of them feature prize pools of $10,000.
Outside of being good rewards on their own, success in such tournaments allows the teams to reach consideration when it comes to invites in higher tier tournaments. The most noticeable of those of course being The International qualifiers or qualifiers for any of the upcoming Valve funded majors.
