DreamLeague season 3 announced with $100,000 starting prizepool and open qualifiers

The western competition ASUS ROG DreamLeague is back for its third season, which differs a lot from the two previous seasons. The tournament is now open, and qualified and invited teams alike will fight for one of the six precious spots in the finals at DreamHack Summer 2015.

When Valve announced that the qualifiers and main event of The International would be held earlier this year, we were stricken with fear, as the potential date change would probably make it impossible for DreamHack Summer to include a DotA2 tournament. However, the company acted quickly and adapted the dates, allowing the teams to join to attend the convention without jeopardizing their TI plans. Today, the third season of ASUS ROG DreamLeague was announced, and everything is planned and ready for another major tournament on Swedish soil.

The third season is quite different compared to the two previous renditions of the tournament, as it includes a new open qualifier system. Starting from March 28th, two open qualifiers will be held each week, with their top two teams advancing to the next round. Starting from April 6th, each week will feature one of the four main qualifier rounds, where the two qualified teams will face two pre-determined invited squads. The winner of each of the four main qualifiers advances to the main league. You can find a visual explanation of the new system here.

The main league of ASUS ROG DreamLeague will feature eight competitors in total - four invited and four qualified. The teams will join a large round-robin group, and they will face every opponent once in a best-of-two match. The top six teams with the most points by the end of the season will secure a spot in the LAN finals.

As for the LAN finals of DreamLeague #3, they will be held at DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden. The event is scheduled to take place from June 13th through 15th, and thousands of fans are expected to join the Swedish festival much like the previous years.
