Red Bull have announced their first Dota 2 tournament series featuring some of the top teams in the world competing for a piece of the $75,000 base prizepool and a spot in the grand final at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, USA.
A new tournament series has been announced by Red Bull featuring 20 teams from around the world competing for the chance to travel to California for the LAN finals. There are five groups of four teams from the different regions including America, Commonwealth of Independant States, China, European Union and South East Asia. While the Chinese group has yet to be announced, the tournament will feature some of the best teams in the world including Team Secret, Team Empire and Cloud 9.
The online group stage is scheduled to begin later this month on March 29th and will continue through to April 18th where the top team from each region will move on to the playoff stage held in the Red Bull North America Headquarters in Santa Monica. The two winning teams from the playoff stage will then go on to the grand finals in The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco for a best-of-five final on May 10th.
The schedule for the upcoming group stages will be released over the coming weeks and a chest will be released on the Dota 2 Store for the event. No information has been released on who will be casting the event. Questions will be raised on Virtus Pro's invite, with the team recently being dropped from the team and members being linked with other teams. Could we see a replacement coming in over the next few weeks?
