Day 3 preview: Will the upsets continue?

Day 3 of The International Dota 2 Championships 2014 resumes in less than thirty minutes with another round of 36 games awaiting to be played out, thereby, keeping us all glued to our monitor screens.

So far into the tournament, all we have witnessed is a constant flow of surprises. True to the meta, we have seen the rankings go haywire with each passing day as teams are still trying to figure out each other in a bid to keep their dreams alive with more than $10.5 million on the line.

Today, day 3 resumes with another nine set of matches (36 games) scheduled to keep us enticed throughout the biggest eSport event in history. As seen in the rankings below, we have Alliance, Fnatic and NaVi.USA hanging on an extremely fragile thread where even a few mistakes might cost them a shot at the main event. However, nothing can be said, as the aforementioned teams still have a shot to make it to the main event.

The same cannot be said for LGD Gaming, Team Empire, Mousesports and Arrow Gaming as they are currently occupy the bottom four spots in the rankings. Mouz and Arrow are most likely eliminated as their chances to qualify for the main event are little to none. The biggest disappointment so far has definitely been Empire, who were touted as one of the strongest teams entering the competition.

Post-day 2 standings

Cloud9, NewBee, Titan and Liquid will have to keep their calm and synergize well enough to keep their positions intact and not give others a ray of hope. Finishing within the top six after the groups means a guaranteed top eight finish that entitles a trip to the main event with at least half a million dollars cash prize.

Moving on, we will see teams sitting on top of the table assert their position and try to maintain their scores in order to make it to the main event. On the other hand, Alliance, Fnatic and Navi.USA will have to fight real hard to keep their dreams alive and try to get away from the danger zone.

The bottom part is a battle of survival. The bottom six teams will get eliminated outright, while places 3-10 will fight each other for main event slots. Among the bottom six teams at the moment are the defending champions of The International, Alliance, and other westerners like Fnatic and Empire.

Which team will go home empty handed? Which one will barely make it? Most of our questions will be answered in less than thirty minutes!
