Swedish Golden E-Sports League to Begin on March 13

Sundsvall 24, the committee behind the Swedish ESWC Qualifiers in 2013, has started a localised Dota 2 League in Sweden.

Sundsvall 24 have started a new Swedish Dota 2 League, titled the Golden E-Sports League. The League's inaugural season will begin on 13 March and last for about three months, with games played every Thursday and Sunday. Details of the League's format have not been released, but it is confirmed that there will be a Live LAN Playoff to conclude the tournament. The total prizepool is SNK 30,000, roughly ~USD$4,650 and bundled together with computer products and gaming equipment.

The organisers have stated that they are looking to expand their repertoire of different games to three in the next season, which could see CS:GO and Starcraft 2 joining in to the mix of games. This effort to develop local eSports is extremely commendable, although not entirely surprising since Sweden has always been active in promoting eSports - The International was broadcast on a national television.

Given that it is a Swedish tournament, it is surprising to see Alliance, the 'The International' 2013 Champions not participating in the league. It is unlikely that they have been snubbed, and instead rejected the invitation to participate due to the relatively small prizepool and scope of the tournament focusing on local amateur teams.

Participating Teams:
Sweden 4 Friends + Chrillee
Sweden Born Incomplete
Sweden Turtle Masters
Sweden House of Gamers
Sweden Lucid Lunatics
