ESPL launches weekly amateur tournaments

Started off by asking for opinions on Reddit, the Electronic Sports Professionals League (ESPL) project is a dream turned reality for founder John Chan. ESPL is a year long, European based tournament with four seasons and tournaments running on a weekly basis.

Teams participating in these weekly tournaments will stand a chance to win $100 in cash and more importantly, league points which will eventually qualify them to the finals every three months. The six top placers by the end of the season will be invited into the season final alongside two invited professional teams. The prize pool for the finals is $5,000 in cash prize and 50% of the DotaTV ticket sales with a possibly increasing prize pool from season two onwards.

We got a sneak peek of the courier that will be coming with the $4.99 DotaTV bundle earlier today and it looks like this:

Interested teams may sign up for the weekly tournaments on their website here. We were told that the website is currently not ready and will be up for registration on January 12.

We will be providing bets for the weekly tournaments from the top eight onwards.

The schedule for season one of ESPL is as below:

Season 1:

Prize pool: $5,900 + 50% of DotaTV proceeds
Season final: March 30

Weekly tournaments:

January: 18-19, 25-26
February: 8-9, 15-16, 22-23
