Na`Vi qualifies for MLG playoffs; Alliance, Liquid, Fnatic, Speed still contesting for 4th spot

Na`Vi has secured themselves a spot in the playoffs after defeating Fnatic in a crucial match moments ago. Alliance, Fnatic, Team Liquid and Speed Gaming are on each other's tail for the final spot in the playoffs. Tiebreaker possibility explained.

With Na`Vi winning versus Fnatic just moments ago, they have secured themselves a playoffs spot and will be facing either DK or Sigma International in the semi-finals early tomorrow. The placing of Na`Vi depends on the outcome of DK versus Speed.

On the other side of the standings are Evil Geniuses and Pretty Boy Swag whom have been eliminated from the tournament. While Pretty Boy Swag had a horrendous first day to begin (losing 0-3), EG did pretty well on day one, finish the day on a 2-1 record. EG's second however, was horrendous and they ended losing four games in a row and is 2-1 at the time of publish. EG will be going heads up against their brother team Alliance to decide the Swedes fate. According to Ioonais 'Fogged' Lucas, Alliance will not be receiving a free pass.

Now that the fate of five teams have been decided, four teams namely Alliance, Team Liquid, Speed Gaming and Fnatic are still hot in contest for the final spot in the playoffs. Looking over at the standings, all four teams are highly susceptible to end up in a tie and below is MLG's tiebreaking rule.

MLG tiebreaking rules:

1. Round Robin Standings ties will be broken using Head to Head Games Winning Percentage (Games Won vs. Tied Teams / Games Played vs. Tied Teams).  If there is a tie involving more than two Teams and Head to Head Games Winning Percentage resolves the tie for a Team(s), but leaves at least two Teams tied, the tie that still exists will be broken using Head to Head Games Winning Percentage.  The higher number will win all Head to Head Games Winning Percentage Tiebreakers.

2. If the aforementioned Tiebreaker can’t break a tie involving only Teams who have qualified for the Bracket, the tie will be broken by Average Victory Time (Total Time in Games Won vs. Tied Teams / Games Won vs. Tied Teams).  If Average Victory Time doesn’t break any ties, the equation will be expanded to include all Round Robin Games played by the tied Teams.  If there is a tie involving more than two Teams and Average Victory Time resolved the tie for a Team(s), but leaves at least two Teams tied, the tie that still exists will be broken using Head to Head Games Winning Percentage.  The lower number will win all Average Victory Time Tiebreakers.  Ties that can’t be broken by the aforementioned Tiebreakers will be broken randomly.

3. If Head to Head Games Winning Percentage can’t break a tie where a Team(s) will qualify for the Bracket and a Team(s) won’t qualify for the Bracket, MLG will add Games to the Schedule in the form of a Tiebreaker Bracket, in order to break the tie.  The Tiebreaker Bracket will be seeded by Average Victory Time. Ties that can’t be broken by Head to Head Games Winning Percentage and Average Victory Time will be broken randomly.

We have taken many hours discussing the possibility of an additional tiebreaker bracket and we came to the following conclusion:

- Alliance loses to EG, Alliance eliminated

- Speed wins DK, Speed takes third playoffs spot

- Alliance wins EG, DK wins Speed
- If Fnatic wins versus Team Liquid, Fnatic takes the fourth spot.
- If Fnatic loses versus Team Liquid, we go into tiebreaker.
