Dignitas wins MLG Dota 2 Invitational, claims spot for Columbus

Team Dignitas did what was expected of them as they secured their place at MLG Columbus as well as the $10,000 first prize by taking home the best-of-three finals against Typical Mistakes 2-1, showing glimmers of what could be expected from them once they mature together as a team.

At the beginning of the show MLG treated us to the undeniable break out star of Typical Mistakes (Pretty Boy Swag), as their captain and Jason 'Sleisel' Kim gave an energetic and charming interview showing all the swag that the teams original name had promised and winning over more than a few fans tuning in to the competition. If NA Dota can keep on providing these charismatic individuals they may just prove the reason to keep tuning in to North American competitions like this while MLG and others continue to grow the scene, giving us a reason to care about the trials and tribulations of these teams and individuals as they strive to become the next break-out stars of Dota.

As for the games, things kicked off with full force as the two strongest of teams faced off in the first round where Dignitas were the ones to come out on top, as the strength of Io and Chaos Knight and how they change the map in the later portions of the game was crucial for Dignitas victory in a nicely close game, sending Typical Mistakes down into the lower bracket. While Dignitas took a strong victory over Joikernaught, reviving Scott 'bLeek' Jensen's Mirana for a domineering performance, Typical Mistakes fought back with strong Queen of Pain, Viper and Lifestealer performances, in order to lineup the re-match in the finals.

This time around it was Typical Mistakes who came out on top in the first game, where Sleisel got absolutely out of control on the Spectre, posting a 10/0/6 performance in the 20 minute rout. For the second game they went for a similar strong lategame hero as the basis for their strategy, picking the Medusa, however coming up short as bLeek had an insane game on Lifestealer, posting 13/1/18 along with the Troll Warlord of Steven 'Korok' Ashworth going 7/2/16, proving to be too much even for the famously hard to kill snake lady. Finally it was a Korok Ursa with Lifestealer bombs on top which clenched the series for Dignitas, in a game which went fairly early in their favour, even as Typical Mistakes held on to the bitter end, wanting to keep the dream alive.

While Team Dignitas advances straight to MLG Columbus, Typical Mistakes will have a second shot at qualifying from the NA qualifier, as one team is yet to be decided for next months big show.
