Dota 2 surpasses Skyrim for all-time Steam record

Dota 2 has set a new record for players online at the same time on Steam in a single game all time, surpassing the old Skyrim record.

A total of 297,010 players online at the same time is the new record for Steam recorded by third-party website SteamGraph. With this number recorded on Saturday, 2 March, the free to play game has surpassed the all-time record of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Skyrim had set the bar for a bit less than 290,000 players online simultaneously on its release weekend in November 2011. For Dota 2 this is another big step to take on its rise. In August 2012, when The International 2012 was watchable for free in game the 100k line was broken for the first time, and the 200k fell on Christmas 2012.

Although the 300k mark has not been reached this weekend, it's likely to fall within the next weeks. Skyrim on the other hand still is among the most popular single games on Steam: Football Manager and Team Fortress 2, Civilization V and the three Counter-Strike titles are following Dota 2 after a fairly decent gap.
