ESL running a showmatch for Dota 2

ESL has decided to host a showmatch in Dota 2 as a sign of activity in the formerly abandoned section.

ESL is hosting a showmatch between MeetYourMakers and Absolute Legends on Friday. It's a first serious sign of activity by ESL in Dota 2. Turtle Entertainment has installed a community manager in ESL for the first time since the release of Dota 2.

Aladin 'Chen Zhen' Ben, the new person in charge when it comes to Dota 2 at Turtle Entertainment is meant to coordinate any further action. For now, the only announced event by ESL is the showmatch on Friday, 9 November, starting at 16 CET. The two teams playing will be the European teams MeetYourMakers and Absolute Legends.

Purge and Casper casting, MYM and AL playing

To our knowledge, it's a real showmatch, no money is involved for the winner, so we can expect some experimental play. The games will be casted by Kevin 'Purge' Godec in English, and Casper in Russian language. In the statements by Chen Zhen and the supporting people from the community, Kawa, PaisY and DrunKin, they hint that a stronger ESL-participation in future can be possible.

Statement by Aladin 'Chen Zhen' Ben, ESL Community Manager Dota 2:

"If the community enjoys our show matches, we will give our best to host high quality content. New is always better and bigger!"

Statement by Jarrett 'Kawa' Robinson:

"I've recently taken up a position with the ESL in helping them secure a foothold in Dota 2. Right now, my job is creating and coordinating events, lead of broadcasting, and a few other logistics, but right now ESL keeps me busy. This show match that we have between MYM and aL provides only a small sample of what's to come which at the moment is extremely promising. I'm more of a community driven guy in terms of events to be fair, but for those of you who have ever stopped for some of my events, expect more in the near future especially for new up and coming casters and teams. More details for that will be coming very soon."

Statement by David 'DrunKin' Pella, MeetYourMakers:

"Dota2 needs more tournaments, so I'm supporting the ESL with everything I can. I think, sooner or later the ESL will be one of the biggest leagues for Dota 2. With SC2 and LoL they have achieved a lot and I hope they can achieve the same for Dota 2."

Statement by Florian 'PaisY' Schmedes, Team Zero:

"Thinking back to when I made my early steps in the competitive scene of computer games, the first thing that comes to my mind is the Electronic Sports League. I think many people did forget that the ESL played and still plays a huge role in the development of the entire eSports scene. When Chen Zhen approached me, I immediately felt that I can help and support this project to make their start into Dota 2 and perhaps even further. The ESL got me started in eSports and now I get the chance to repay!"
