India Gaming Carnival Makes A Splash
Posted by Kshitij "KrocK" Kothari 3 months ago
Supposedly one of the biggest and the most extravagant things to hit the world of Indian E-Sports in a long time. It is one of those extremely rare occasions, which so far have been non-existent in the Indian scene. $30,000 USD have been put up to be battled over and the Indian gamers have much more than they could have ever wished for. The "wtf eventz" team
Starting off on April 6, the 3-day extravaganza set up over a sprawling twenty-two acres of land promises to be India's largest gaming and electronics expo, including product launches and loads of entertainment.
The organization expects 200,000 attendees and about 20,000 gamers to mark their presence in the entire duration of the event. The total prize purse of the enitre event, including other games as well, is of INR 1,50,00,000 which equates to about 300,000$. The event also includes numerous other games like Starcraft 2, Call Of Duty 4, Counter Strike 1.6 and many more.
The carnival is probably the first impression that India would make on the global Dota scene and the E-Sports scene in general.
The event was initially plagued by an extremely dissatisfied Indian DotA community. The reason being the low prize pool for DotA, which earlier amounted to a total of $10,000 USD. This amount, albeit huge by Indian standards, was just a fraction of the $40,000 that the other team based games were allotted. That issue has now been resolved due to a proactive community that rallied hard to get the organizer's attention.
Since then, the organizers have stepped up and have also taken into consideration the issue of having DotA and not Valve's Dota 2. To gauge the situation accurately they have issued a Facebook opinion poll regarding the issue.
“
Officially, this is 5 times BIGGER than Dreamhack !”The total prize money is INR 1.5 Crore. Its divided into various games and tournaments. Regarding each of the games' prize money, its divided into a ratio of 3:1 for the winner and the 2nd place i,e.: For a prize of 20 lakhs, the winner will get 15 lakhs and the runner up will get 5 lakhs.
We have finalized about 150 top gaming clans from all across the world and official invitations to all of them will be sent very soon. E-sports in India is just 3% explored. With a platform as huge as IGC, we believe that the untapped potential will soon be realized and India will emerge as a major market for the gaming scenario in the coming years.
As far as games are concerned, DOTA , CS 1.6, will surely be there. There is a huge debate going on for including either StarCraft 2 of Battlefield 3 OR both of them in the tournament. Officially, this is 5 times BIGGER than Dreamhack !

Typo under the details sections. The Total Prize purse figure that has been publicized if of INR 1,50,00,000 Cr which equates to about USD 300,000 Either too many commas, to many 0s. Or the title to the article is wrong.
Out of fucking nowhere, a gianormous LAN in the middle of India. Voted for Dota 2.
DOTA 2 of course.
Also, this sounds great. Kudos to those Indians organzising such an event. That's the way to go!

its so sad there is no good indian tier 2 or even tier 3 team to compete to likes of other SEA teams
12 LOL 13 Dont undersestimate them they really have not seen in offline Lan Tourney yet. You know indians are good in practicing just like as they are persistent to be fluent in english. i think india has a long way to go.
Is miki attending this
Cool
I hope it's a success so India can host more international tournaments, great country
vote for dota 2 guys. really want to see more people play dota 2 in india than wc3 dota.
As much as I love India being involved in the scene, I think the prize distribution is ridiculous.
woooow, really impressive and unexpected. cs 1.6 aswell <3
Wow! Goodluck to this upcoming event looking forward to great results :D
seems legit
And prizemoney for Dota is? edit: 30k :) cool enough! Is it hard to get Visa to the India?
Wow, Dota getting bigger in INDIA
Am I the only one here thinking that this tournament won't attract a lot of European/American teams due to having only two teams awarded?
just a single word: NICE!
well at the least this will reveal how much INDIANS need to get better for the gaming thats about to come in future ^^
does the writer have issues with numbers or had he some sort of keyboard accident while smashing on the comma to much ?
What Mr.Kushagra, the organizer, had to say about it : nice engrish gosugamers writers ... fix it. |
Possibly Dota 2 and CS 1.6 <3
does the writer have issues with numbers or had he some sort of keyboard accident while smashing on the comma to much ? INR 1,50,00,000 is the correct way it is written in India. 100,000 --> is written as 1,00,000. After first three digits there is a comma after every two digits. That is now our number system works, so can understand your confusion
Wait this was posted in forums a while back saying $300k. Battlefield 3? Surely you mean Quake.
well, I'm voting for w3 dota. Much more fun to watch than dota 2 even though i have a beta key. Dota 1 is waaay more fun.
if you want to see euro/na teams you will vote for Dota2.. And they are gonna be there cuz of the sponsors.
The total event prize money is $300,000 and for DotA/Dota2 it is $30,000
#31 and #35 Both Hellboys, and both from India, coincidence?
Hopefully the chinese will come
Wow that surely was unexpected, GJ India and thanks to the Indian Dota community which made them rise the prizepool ! Dota 2 in a crushing lead :D
#31 no you cant understand how confusing that is for me. its like my world just broke into a 1.00.00000.000 pieces !
cool that will be the opening tournament in 2012 season)
is 10 am ist == 10 am cet?
10 am ist == 5.30 am cet
FYI the digit 0 (zero) was invented/discovered in India.
Aww man I wish I could attend...
VOted for DOTA2.
They will do DotA 1 despite the poll. (Got it from a reliable source)
#46 What sense would that make?
#47. cause that poll was probably directed to the indian teams and spectators. most of the people that voted for dota 1=indian players while people voted for dota 2 are people from gosugamers/etc. before it was on gosugamers, the poll was like 70 percent in favor of dota 1. since the tourney is for indian scene, i think it will be dota 1
So Demon's not going despite the $30k?
I voted DOTA2
