Interview: Non Servium

We sometimes have surprises when we see a TOP team losing to a "unknown" team in a tournament. We had one of these surprises during the actual GosuCup, when a spanish team called Non Servium won a match against Evil Geniuses.

Well I had the chance to talk a little to this Spanish team and ask a few things... Who knows, maybe they came to become a TOP team too and put Spain on the European DotA scene!


GG: First let me know who you are... A little about you guys, names, anything you want to say about yourselves :)

eriiic-: Hello my name is eric and I'm 18, i've been playing dota for 2 years now and I hope to be the first spanish top team known
GG-NyMe: My name is Ulises and I'm from Spain, been playing dota for many years now and the part I enjoy most is being manager of this team (since I suck at playing xd)
heqlam: Well, my name's Victor, I'm 23, spanish, and I play dota for about 3 years
oxiGen: Hi all, my name is Carlos, I'm from Valencia (Spain) and I've been playing dota for 2-3 years, my playstyle is playing solo mid hero and ganker
IamMorden: Hi GG-jihox, first of all thanks to interview us, is a pleasure for us :). My name is Sebastian, I'm from Spain and been playing dota since 2 years ago..
yeskoN: Hi, I´m yeskoN and my real name is Raúl. I´m from Spain. And I have played dota for a very long time.. i dont know exactly. I love to play all heros, but in serious games I usually play supports.
Guito: I am Enrique, I'll turn 21 on octuber. I live in Aranjuez, near Madrid (Spain). I've been playing dota for ~5 years. I have played all roles and now I'm playing carry. I love kunkka! ;-D



GG: Ok... when did you guys form the team? Did you have serious purposes behind it or it was just something for fun that became serious by the time passes?

oxiGen: Well, we formed this team like 3 months ago, between 2 spanish clans, and at the moment we're working forward playing against good clans in good tournaments.
GG-NyMe: I think that we allways aimed to be a top team and at the moment we're trying to play against good teams in top tournaments
IamMorden: Well, we formed as team 3 months ago. I think we are trying to get it as serious clan, atm we want to improve our skill as a clan and playing against good people that is comfortable for us.



GG: Hm... But you guys were friends before forming the team right?

eklaN: y, we knew each other for some time, by playing spanish inhouse games a.k.a "españolitos" :D
oxiGen: well, me and eriic are Neighbours
yeskoN: well, oxiGen, morden, guito and me have played in other clan before too (that clan was Wizards, all spanish too) and eric and eklan were friend of us
IamMorden: When I started playing dota I was in other clan with yeskon and Guito, then I knew oxigen. Later we started to find new players and found eklan and eric



GG: Well, talking about tournaments... Non Servium is attending to the GosuCup right now. Is this your first event with TOP teams?

GG-NyMe: The team has been scrimming with top teams with good results so we thought that was the time to attend a major tournament
IamMorden: Hmm, with clan Non I must say its the first top tournament we playing.



GG: So lets go to the EG thing... How did you manage to beat the so called Evil Geniuses, one of the favourites to win the GosuCup? Did you train a specific strategy against them or just played as you would against any other team?

oxiGen: rly we had not a good strategy, but we talked @ play some strong hero vs them (like tc) :D
IamMorden: Due to this match, I think we had some luck getting TC as fp, we played a good game and gave us the victory



GG: Well, as you stated, you got some luck against EG. But you lost the match against Xeo.int (considered by many a lot less skilled than EG). What went wrong?

GG-NyMe: The team didn't do a good pick, the lanes didn't work as they were expected and the team weren't very inspired
IamMorden: Yeah, this match was just horrible, we played so bad (I think picks weren't good also) we were very outplayed. I dont like to talk about it :<
oxiGen: It was a very bad game, still worse for me coz i was very stoned :(



GG: The GosuCup is the first event in which the map version is the v6.61b. Does it make much difference from the old stable version? And what about balances?

eklaN-: Personally, I like this version a lot, it brings more playable heroes (thing that is always good-) and nerfed overused int tanks. However its not balanced at all, Icefrog made too much changes for just a version, and this TC is just too strong.
IamMorden: Yay, it makes much difference, many things changed. I think TC need really rework on it, sames a batrider, their dmg are just "wtf". I think new silencer gonna be picked more often now.



GG: So, as a new team, you must be anxious for some more tournaments... What are your next steps?

yeskoN: We want to play all important tournaments that we can, sure ^_^
GG-NyMe: The team will try to reach the Playoffs to division 2 in Pick League XII, besides we will sing in any online tournament since we can't afford offline without sponsorship
oxiGen: Well, we took this first tournament with a lot of willing, and there is no doubt that we are going to work hard to be able to continue playing against top teams and try to win something. If we work every day we can do it! We don't plan to sign in any other player but the time will tell



GG: But do you plan any additions in the team or will you stick with the actual line-up?

IamMorden: About line-up, we will keep this one atm


GG: Nyme just said that you can't afford offline events without sponsorship... How do you plan to get a sponsor?

oxiGen: We already had some sponsors like wizards or nextLevel but we weren't looking for them, they looked for us
GG-NyMe: In Spain DotA is not that famous so it's quite difficult to find a sponsorship. But we will try to get known in the scene beating top teams and maybe some other sponsor will come




GG: What do you mean by "In Spain DotA is not that famous"? Aren't there any competitive events in Spain? Come on every country has a competitive side!

eklaN-: The only competitive event I could know about Dota in Spain was a 2x2 tournament... So , no , there isnt anyone :p
Guito: well, Spain is not like the rest of european countries, in spain there is too much FIESTAAAA and people dont play computers seriously
GG-NyMe: DotA is not that famous in Spain, at least not in a competitive way. There is a lack of seriousness and compromise. The major LAN doesn't include DotA as an official game so G_G



GG: We are almost done... Tell us about the difficulties that a new team has to go through until it gets respect by the entire community. The actual scene is hard for newcomers?

Guito: Well, I think community underrate you, but that's not a problem. If you are good you will get into those "top" teams.
GG-NyMe: Well, it's always hard in the begining because some top teams don't take us seriously... We had some problems aswell with last season in Pick League because we had a spot in Div 2 and they relegated us to Div 3 and some teams got a free spot in Div 1
IamMorden: We have friendship with some top teams, others just dont know who are us. Where we had more troubles was in Pick league, admins got us like a joke.
