Overwatch makes waves at PAX East

PAX delivered on its promise of a fun weekend with free play sessions and exciting tournaments in half a dozen games, including Overwatch. The annual festival also featured hours of entertaining panels and a cosplay competition.

Gamers had a busy weekend at PAX East with free play sessions, panels and tournaments in Hearthstone, Street Fighter and League of Legends. The annual gaming festival also featured the season finals for the Rainbow Six Siege and Gears of War pro leagues. Overwatch fans in particular had a great weekend with free play sessions, an open tournament, an exciting show match and more.

VODs for the events panels can be found here.

Blizzard showed up in full force in support of their upcoming FPS, Overwatch, by partnering with Uber to provide Overwatch-themed cars complete with cosplaying drivers.

As with all gaming festivals, PAX East had its fair share of cosplayers. The resourceful costume makers showed up from far and wide to show off their impressive skills and life-like outfits.

The headline Overwatch event of the weekend was a show match between Penny Arcade founders Jerry "Tycho" Holkins and Mike "Gabe" Krahulik. The two duked it out on teams of 6 in a best of 3 to decide who would win the coveted watch from their long running webcomic series.

Gabe won in a close 3 game series, the results of which can be found here.

Overall it was an eventful weekend in Boston for Overwatch fans and although the closed beta has come to an end we are very excited to see what the future holds for Blizzards first foray into the FPS genre.
