Shanghai Major: group stage survival kit

Less than 24 hours are left until the Shanghai Major will kick off and these should be our last hours to make the final personal schedule arrangements so we can fully enjoy a full packed weekend with the best Dota 2 games we could ask for.

Group stages will last for four days, February 25-28th and at the end of each day we will have the top two and bottom two teams decided from one group. The GSL format used for the group stages might be a bit hard to follow as it is not a common one for Dota 2 competitions. That’s why for each group Valve decided to display the progress in a bracket formula.

There will be two GSL matches in each group with the winner of each progressing into the Qualification #1 match. The loser of each GSL match falls into the Loser’s Match.

The winner of the Qualifier #1 match will start the main event from the upper bracket.  The winner of the Loser’s Match progresses to Qualifier #2, with the loser falling to the Lower Bracket at the Main event. The loser of Qualifier #1 has to compete in Qualifier #2, where they face the winner of the Loser’s Match. The winner of Qualifier #2 will join the winner of Qualifier #1 in the Upper Bracket. The loser of Qualifier #2 will drop down to the Loser’s Bracket.
