Peter Eastgate to Auction WSOP ME Bracelet for UNICEF

Peter Eastgate, the 24 year old Danish poker player who won the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, is auctioning off his WSOP Main Event winner's bracelet with the proceeds going to UNICEF.

Back in June of 2010, right before the WSOP began, Eastgate announced to the world that he was retiring from poker.

"When I started playing poker for a living, it was never my goal to spend the rest of my life as a professional poker player. My goal was to become financially independent. I achieved that by winning the WSOP main event in 2008. The period following has taken me on a worldwide tour, where I have seen some amazing places and met many new people; it has been a great experience."

He admitted in the 20 months following his win, he had lost his motivation and he now wanted to focus on Peter Eastgate, the person. Rumors had swirled that he had lost significant sums playing high stakes cash games in the months leading up to his announcement.

Now comes word that Peter Eastgate will sell his bracelet on eBay with the proceeds going to the charity UNICEF.

The google translated version of his press release claims Eastgate claiming "Of course I am still great pride in my title, but the bracelet will I then never be used. I am actually never really with jewelry and such. So I thought that they would get better benefits from the bracelet on this one way where it will hopefully get a lot of people for good."

The bracelet made by Corum is made of 168 grams of 18 carat white gold with 291 diamonds totaling 2.81 carats. An independent jeweler evaluated the pure raw materials at over 10k pounds or 86k Danish kroner, without considering the enormous prestige and historic value of the bracelet. Peter Eastgate was the 5th ever Danish bracelet winner, and first Main Event winner.
