Child's Play Charity Opens!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It is that time of year again where it gets a little colder and the malls are open later to get you to spend your hard earned cash. We should though always, ALWAYS remember those who are less fortunate than us. For the past few years Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik have put together a great charity called Child's Play Charity.

You might recognize those names better from their comic alter egos known as Tycho and Gabe. They put together the web comic Penny-Arcade and have now for the past two years put together the Child's Play Charity which donates game systems and games to children in hospitals. This really helps the kids as they recover from their surgery, or injury as they spend weeks to months in the same hospital sitting on the same bed. Sure they can watch TV, but it is very uninteractive.

Putting a videogame system into the child's hands can make the process much more bearable for them and for their family and friends who visit them while they are recovering. So think about donating today, any little bit can help, and show the world that the videogame community is not as terrible as the media makes us out to be.

From the FAQ page:

Here’s the deal.

For two years now we’ve set up and organized a charity called Child’s Play. We set it up because we were angry the media decided to blame all the world’s problems on games and gamers. Basically they said that gamers were bad people, and we thought that wasn’t right. Apparently, you guys agreed: through Child’s Play you sent nearly a million dollars in toys, games, and cash to the sick kids in Children’s Hospitals around the nation.
