DigitalLife - $12,000 in prize money

Last week GGL announced the $100,000 gaming tournament DigitalLife, which will be hosted in New York City between 14th and 16th October. More information have been released today and we can report that the Warcraft III prize amount will be $12,000 (USD).

DigitalLife is a "consumer technology & entertainment event" hosted in Javits Convention Center in New York City. Last year the event was visited by +35 000 visitors and this they are expecting even more this year. New for this year is the DigitalLife Gaming Tournament, arranged by GGL, which have a total prize amount of $100,000. The event will have tournaments in Warcraft III, Counter-Strike, Halo, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Dance Dance Revolution.

This promising event, sponsored by Intel and X-box, shows that gaming is developing fast these days. The total amount of prize money in the Warcraft III-tournament will be $12,000. Players can qualify by either competing in online competition or at five regional tourmanets all over the United States. The 1st place winner from either the online or offline qualification are guaranteed a spot in the tourmanent. The offline winners will receive $250 per person or $1250 per team and all of the rest of the travel expenses are the responsibility of the player(s).

As you can see the qualifiers for this tournmanet begin very soon. All of the online competitors are given a little over 2 weeks to attempt to qualify. However, the offline qualifications will only last for two days at give internet cafes around the country. The final will be held from the 14th-16th of October which brings it fairly close to BlizzCon and the World Cyber Games Grand Finals.

This tournament will be another big step in the growth of e-sports and could possibly turn into the next World Cyber Games.
