Ok, before buying the phone you need to analyze what you want to do with it.

If you are lazy, just want to play games/apps on the phone then get IPhone its the best for casual users.

If you want to play around with the system, program some stuff and just see the phones limitations etc, get an android, for example Galaxy S2, theres also decent HTC etc.

If you just need a phone for calls get a shitty 20$ phone no jokes, otherwise waste of money

its really up to you to be honest if your a show off kind of guy iphone4s is the best choice for you.the battery issue you talking about is true but you can minimize it by just turning off any apps after using and has a lot to offer.
if you really hate iphone that much i recommend sony experia 10 it works wonders its like the immitation of iphone and the fact that it is very cheap
i have iphone 4 and it never gets me bored

I've been htc since I started using smartphones but I bought an iPhone 4 around 3 weeks ago. It's a good phone, except you can't really do anything with it, unless you jailbreak it. And if you jailbreak it, the insurance disappears. Otherwise than that it's fast and very simple to use compared to the little more complex UI of Android (I've never used a Windows phone).

All in all i recommend you to buy anything with Android, the iPhone is good no doubt but the UI just doesn't cut it for me. Sure it's simple, but it's not fun, you can't really tweak anything, while with my android phone(s) I spent hours tweaking UI, because let's be honest, there's more fun to have something different you tweaked yourself instead of something that looks exactly like everything else (gogo hipsters!).

I recommend you the htc phones, but the galaxy S2 is a sweet phone to, but imo it feels a little plastic.

Havent had a look at that google phone yet, but maybe that's something to look into. GL in your shopping!
