Question About Ogre Magi (5689 reads, 32 replies, 4 months ago)
Good day everyone, after watching one of pub replays, i wondered why ogre magi is not being used in the current metagame which favors str carries. Ogre Magi has two very good disables and a buff that solves the prob of str carries with atk and movespeed. his mana problems acan be solved by manaboots and in terms of lane control you can play him a full support in the safe lane to prevent harrass and after which used as a ganker.. So why isnt he picked?hoping for some enlightenment from u guy, tnx

mate, im with u. i love having OM on my team. mainly because hes one of the most noob-friendly heroes. almost impossible to play badly w him. hes tanky, he has a stun and nuke. has a chance of near instant kill on weak supports. possibly becuase he's melee. but afaik he still sees competitive gameplay often

simply because he is an item dependent hero..int hero with low int gain..and his ulti cost his fireblast manacost to be increased..missed his early farm=late arcane boot=less efective..one or two spell and thats it..no mana..

The metagame does indeed favor strength carries, but Ogre Magi (OM) is by no means a "str carry". Having a large STR gain (3.2/leve) does not mean his main attribute is STR. There is absolutely no reason to use
him as a carry because the gold invested into his items will not be rewarded because his skills don't scale with items. His main attribue is INT and he is more or less effective only when used as a roamer.

The reasons why he is not picked often are:

Hope I made things clear!

Gonna point out too, that Ogre Magi is not a str carry. There are better supports out there like ES who is melee like him but can stun in aoe

I THINK HE SAYS THAT HE (OGRE) BUFFS THE STR CARRIES GREAT BECAUSE OF HIS +AS & +MS BUFF THAT THEY LACK BECAUSE THEYRE NOT AGI. You're right w/ ES. It has great work at defensive and offensive play.
Godspeed.

thank you for your replies, though i would like to point out that i did not say that om is a str carry, i just said that he is a good support for str carries which benefits from his atk and movement speed buff. regarding his mana problems, the build that i have in mind revolves around his 3rd skill, so basically ill put one level on 1st and second skill since the stun duration in the first skill is constant in all levels and the scaling of the slow and damage of his second skill is somewhat crappy, while the atk and movement skill bonues significantly increases per level of his third skill. aside from this this also solves his mana problem since level 1 fireblast only costs 105 mana already with multicast (correct me if im wrong) and his ignite costs 95 mana in level one while his third skill is costs 75 mana on all levels.. i used as a reference one of the om replays ive watched months ago which showcased a successful roaming ogre magi support, but unfortunately i cant find the replay anymore.. feel free to provide your constructive criticisms and tnx again..

got ur point there..tried it myself..max the 3rd skill 1st..and with magina as my team carry..magina is just unstoppable.. but it is always better to go for a support that have aoe.. much more helpful in team battle..

I agree with the people who wrote that ES is a stronger melee support stunner than OM, but also Tide and Sven are more usefull in that role.

The problem with his buff is that when the carry goes bkb they will dispell the buff, a problem that supports with auras like VS doesn't have.
The cycle of life and death continues

This all should be tested by some pro teams versus pro teams.

+1 for Tide, but disagree about Sven. He is one of those semi-carry heroes who can to some extent fulfill both roles (referring to carrying and ganking) but doesn't excel at any. He can sometimes be used in a strategy based on early/mid-game dominance in which Sven +1(VS/Lina/CM and such) do dual roaming. I think MUFC used this strat a couple of times in DotA/Dota 2.

i think that tidehunter and om are different in a way because tide is more teamfight oriented while om fits better in a ganking lineup..

Regarding bloodlust being dispelled, the only str hero in the current metagame who needs bkb in my opinion is sg. Davion is a natural tank and in teamfights you want dk to be focused and bkb will prevent your enemies from doing so. CK also doesnt go for BKB while mangix is a walking ultimate.. But with this i figured that the only heroes that would really benefit from OM is 1.DK 2.AM 3.CK to some extent so i think it somewhat justifies him not being picked.tnx for your feedback guys

#14 IMO not going for a BKB on DK or AM is somewhat similar to suicide. Though DK is a HARD hero if he can't move because of disables then he's shit in a team fight.
Like a star you will shine but then you will fall.

i think its not suicide if you have a tons of armor or 50%magic resistance, rarely do i see an am or dk having bkb in professional matches, except when hard disablers (rhasta, lion) are around to counter them specifically.that is in my opinion

Basically Cho'Gall never gave his permission to any of the other ogre magis/warlocks to assist any non-Horde... If you saw any of the teams flying the Horde tabard, you'd probably start to see some major bloodlusty infernos

ogre is fun to play in pubs, kind of useless toward the end.
