problem with our ranking:
1. We don't/can't cover ALL games played.
2. if place 20 wins vs place 19 they get points, while due to the lack of coverage of the Chinese/Asian scene(improved though!), they have less gosubets compared to the Europeans thus less games/chances for point-trading.
3. Asians rarely play against Europeans so it is highly unlikely to get a Chinese top 3 (as many people would assume is correct) due to European teams NOT LOSING to the Chinese. The only reason this is possible if the potential top three clans from China play many more games (and win all/most of it), thus having a higher point average then the European teames. (in the ranking system this will cause the Chinese teams that lose more often, skilled or not, to be below the European teams that lose often (because they lose more points due to more games played).
problem with:
choose 5 dota pros from renowned teams, 5 members of stuff or just respected dota personalities and they vote every month 5-10 teams top10 giving points for placement .. in the end sort the teams by points + add commentaries of people that voted etc. .. great system already working well in cod/css scene.
Is that this is not a ranking system, but an opinion from a select group of people. Thus not being as objective as possible (I'm not saying our ranking is correct, but its objective (especially after we started picking up more of the Chinese gosubets)
problem with:
I think it would be easier to manage the ranking system if it is patterned next to the pound for pound ranking from boxing. So, instead of hundreds of teams we only get 1-20 rankings based from fan votes and votes from editors from different DotA sites.
Is that this will NOT choose the best/higher ranked teams, but the crowd's favorite, which is much more important in boxing than in DotA. For example if KS.int would still be here, many people would vote on them due to them liking that team, instead of who beat who.
One possible solution is keeping a seperate ranking for the European scene, the Asian-China scene and the Chinese scene. But the problems with this come when you get international tournaments.
conclusion: With the differences of amount of tournies played in the regions, the fact that a team from 1 region doesn't play too often against another region and the constant switching of teams/players, makes it pretty much imposible to have a correct and 100% objective ranking system.
