DotA Heroes have become more complex (9051 reads, 71 replies, 1 year ago)
I wonder how heroes have changed from..

This unit throws a magic missile at enemy and the enemy gets stunned, gives damage aura, reduces armour, swaps position ..thats it...simplpe and perfect ....To

This hero links with another hero within 900 aoe, link can be broken, summons wisps,expands...telports,gives attackspeed ,drains own hp..teleports back,,link broken.,contracts,slows...

So why cant we have heroes like before...something more playable at competitive scene?....discuss

lol! the frog thinks of fun play! not just press+aim+click=kill

i think it has evolved pretty good. u have to think to play the heroes right and to execute the combo perfectly go get the kill!
Is your brain on cooldown??

Yeh i agree with this post. I really like it when ice makes a few unique moves on a few different heroes but there are becoming too many complex moves now imho. I mean dont get me wrong they are innovative and very fun to play but I sorta get the feeling that heroes like the ones just released could impact competitive play in a bad way when eventually released back into cm.

Just my 2 cents

GoodnighT-
"Simple" skills have more or less been already used up by the 90+ heroes in the pool. I don't think Icefrog has a choice but to make skills a little more complex.

I do agree though, that I'm having a hard time trying to understand the skills of the 4 recent new heroes. But all it takes is for us to get used to it, that's all. This is evolution, and what DotA needs.

i totaly agree with you
not that i dont understand the skill but when somebody new is playing the game he cant understand all those skills or cant play those heros or do u think a new player can play one of those 3 new heros? i think not ^^

also i miss simple stun skills like lion or venge.
there isnt a simple stun that says "stuns enemy for 2 secounds"

lol! the frog thinks of fun play! not just press+aim+click=kill

actually this is bullshit. look at the standard wc3 heros and ull see they are simple too and wc3 still got one of the biggest esports around.
when the skills get more complex the game wont get more attractive. somebody whos playing dota sometimes wont be able to see whats happening in clashes etc.

if you notice there is not one duplicate skill in dota recently, like how skel king and sven used to share the same stun skills in the past versions, icefrog tried to make every skills unique (no duplicate skills) so there is almost no "simple and easy to understand skill" anymore (all already used up by the existing heroes).

#6 ye but i think thats ok

look at earthshaker. his skillset is unique. the skills are easy to understand but still the skills fit PERFECTLY his theme (some earthshaking cow raging in and killin all creeps )
most of the "old" heros have a easy to understand skillset but they are still unique in what they are doing.

earthshaker is not "easy to understand", we all know how it works because we have been playing it for a long time and watched so many replays with him in it.

imagine earthshaker is one of the "new heroes" and you never knew about any of his skills, you will also be wondering how his skill works. none of his skills = stun a single target for 2 seconds dealing 50/100/150/200 dmg

#8 actually he is. only his ulti is harder to understand when u are new but u can say more units -> more damage. i know i hadnt any problems to understand earthshaker when i began to play dota.

just look his secound skill. when somebody would make a skillsuggestion that looks like this nobody would take him serious. too boring, nothing special. but in his whole concept its a perfect skill imo.

well what would make more sense is to give complicated skills to heroes along with some simple passives .. the new heroes offer too many good skills as opposed to the old ones :/ 4 spells is just too strong i think .. see AA for example

I think TC, AA, Murloc are all very very bad heroes.

Skills are way too complicated, you don't clearly understand what the fuck is happening. Especially AA which is the most retarded hero ever created.

Icefrog had some good ideas in the past but lately, mehh.

I mean if you look the facts:

- AA - sucks a lot
- Murlock - sucks a lot-
- Etheral blade - who uses it ?
- Medusa ulti / revamp - overpowered
- Batrider - never used

The new heroes might be interesting, I don't have enough background to judge.

Icefrog had great ideas with Kunkka, puck (made by community), and clockwerk was so so.

Dota's creativity is going downhill but thats just because wc3 doesnt have so much to offer anymore.

+ All those updates suck so much they cant even be added to CM so there are 2 communities playing different games now, gg.

@OP, the reason for all the new colors, spells, skills, heroes, craziness in general, is to appeal to the mass audience, ppl who like casual. I dislike that and I think DotA should begin to get less noob friendly and more and more competitive. BUT, if all you want is hardcore pro comp challenge, Counter Strike is waiting for ya. You gotta find that golden balance, thats what Ice is doing, thats what he did for the past 3 years.

i think TC is the best of the new heroes...good mid game
but for others ...
they kind of loose their importance during mid game....

for instance see the 6.68 replays in which copter is played by kky...in the strt he owns dendi...gets a lot of kills..but then just fails in mid game
same is the case with dj_rhasta playing copter...

Give players the option to choose themselves if they wanna play an ez hero, or a complex one. The more complex the more fun most of the time.

I hate leoric, i love wisp =)

I totally agree with op and was thinking the same for quite some time now.
I think the main reason is that icefrog doesnt want to duplicate heros, that mixed with wc3 engine that doesnt allow much stuff I guess, as for newer heros comments I love kunkka puck tc, on the other hand I think murloc and aa are total bullshit same goes for batrider. And as for whole dota in general I still love playing old school heros like lina es sven sf they are more fun then lets say tc for me.

slark and AA could be used in CM and make sense in some lineups but those new heroes seems to be just to much O_O
