So , as the new versions come out , new heroes become more and more popular . As do new strategies . One of those heroes who are just starting to see a bit more playtime is Furion , perhaps most seen picked by now called Nirvanas leader Puppey .
Sprout stats at lvl 4 :
Mana * 160
CD * 8 seconds
Range * 600
Aoe * 150
Duration* 5.25 seconds
Target * Any Unit
Effects * Traps the target using trees
5.25 seconds is an extremely long time . Although not being a real disable , the added stress of seeing 3-4 heroes moving in on you for the kill might cause some panic , impairing your judgement . Sometimes to the extent (yes Im speaking from my own experiences) that you just randomly click everywhere hoping for a miracle to somehow get you out from your wooden prison , effectively making this a 5.25 second stun .
So , onto discussing possible counters for this evil spell .
First up : The Tango ! The most basic counter to sprout . Early game Sprout won't do much to you if you're fast enough eating that tree , and making sure you get the middle one , and not the ones at the sides (not as easy as it sounds/looks . I see pros having a hard time with this aswell) as that will make you either stuck for the duration of the spell , or having to waste another tango . But , for how long is it worth packing tangos just to counter that one spell ? We all know inventory slots are scarce , and having to rebuy tangos does cost atleast some money , which leads us to :
The Quelling Blade . Used in the same fashion as the tango , with the difference of having unlimited charges . But , what if you're a range hero ? Is it worth spending that gold and inventory slot on a QB for 12% dmg to creeps and a sprout counter ? And how long should you keep it ? We all know you'd rather have that extra Wraith Band or a TP . Anything more usefull than a QB , which leads us to :
The Force Staff . Arguably the most underrated item in dota . Extremely versatile , not to mention cheap . This beauty once activated shoots you right through those pesky trees , within a matter of tenths of a second depending on how quick on the trigger you are . Just remember to face the correct way before you go all human cannonball up in this biatch . Is it worth it though ? Even if its cheap it does cost quite a bit of money . Let's say you're playing a Shadow Fiend . None of the above solutions really does it for you , which leads us to :
Other stuff that kind of works vs Sprout . Clever , right ? So , in the aforementioned example of playing a SF you might have a dagger at your disposal . Does it really work that well against sprout ? Chances are you will get hit and then you're stuck there .. for eternity .. , well almost . What about BKB ? Maybe you'll be all Yamateh and activate it right before the first Storm Bolt hits you , but if you're caught alone chances are you're going to die anyway . And having to use up the BKB charges, perhaps not everytime but atleast every once in awhile just to save your ass perhaps isn't a great solution . I think I once saw someone Manta out of a Sprout , but it seems very unreliable . Could be used as a backup if your dagger fails maybe ?
And ye , thats all I have really . Obviously if you're playing a hero like Potm , you just leap . Kind of self-explanatory . Feel free to discuss , and to give your own tips on how to counter sprout , wether it be by items , skills , hero lineups or whatever . Any contribution is welcome . And I know this is long , but Im just trying to help people out , ya know ? So if anyone says tl;dr Im gna be all sadface =( .
Peace out !
