Cold

I met a girl I used to know,
She's got a cold blue stare.
She wasn't always that way, she used to be warm.
Full of fiery passion.
I drove up to her, told her I thought she was special.
Her look was venom. "Honey, girls like me are a dime a dozen.
But I'll be special if you want."
She got in the car, I already knew her.
Started talking about my past, and how old I was.
She heard my name, remembered me and smiled.
It warmed her face, but her heart's still full of ice.
"You know my story, how about I hear yours?"
It turns out she had a bad life.
Her dad treated her like shit, beat her and her momma too.
She ran away, lives in the heart of a heartless city.
Tells me she shares an apartment with business partners, co-workers.
She said "Sometimes I sleep on the bathroom floor,
Just so I'm not the only thing that feels like shit."
The freezing tiles offer a cold comfort,
Comfort to a girl who earns cold cash,
For cold love.
On cold nights.
It buys her food and rent.
Enough to keep her cold heart beating.
"It's not much of a life,
I don't have a fireplace to keep me warm.
But if I can feel the cold,
At least I can feel."
