The thing that sets this occurrence apart from anything else is that it's the Olympics. And it's not just the singer incident, it's stuff like this:

http://omoikane.minstrum.net/one-world.jpg

Don't me wrong. I know China is full of good caring people, just like any other country. But the way the country is being run is really backwards. The only reason I liked Beijing hosting the Olympics would be that hopefully with the international spotlight on them, the Chinese government catch up in human rights, fighting poverty etc.

ummm... being communist or not doesn't make china any worse. they have already considered switching to a more capitalist way but it would cause chaos. do you have any idea how hard it is to switch from on form to another overnight?

They already have turned to capitalism to fuel their economy. Their overall government policy though is still as crooked as it was 10 years ago.

The world simply exists - no more, no less. You're the one who deemed it pathetic.

Some people claim that our true selves are mirrored within our judgement. Do you agree?

Well actually, it got a lot better, but still. Not our fault China had a really dark communist past. They improved, trust me.

But seriously, this community reacted the worst to this issue.. The other 2 forums I go to reacted in a much better way, something like what my other post was like.

And you're the one to judge a reaction as good or bad? On what basis? Similarity to your own believes? Passivity? By some ultimate yardstick?

Now I'll assume that you've judged the man based upon his post, as I don't see you two knowing each other. Neither would it make much sense to quote the post otherwise. I'll also assume that you didn't like his post. Please correct me if I was wrong to assume these things.

Let's dissect that one post.

i hate the way chinese ppl think

they care too much about image.

Just some opinions. You may agree or disagree.

fuck... makes me sick thinking about it.

Stating his feelings about something. You may sympathise, or you may not.

i am chinese born in a western society and there are enough chinese people in toronto canada

the buildings they made just for the games and the athletes who have no life other than train themselves to win gold medals

our asses got pwned for thousands of years because we thought we were the best fighters, then a white guy brought a gun and invaded our country and we were too busy fighting EACH other.

there are a million things you can bring up and we'll have a never ending discussion about china.

Now these are statements acting as truths. Are they true? Or are they not? I'll not be the one to judge.

Here comes the question. Why don't you like that one post? Is it that you don't sympathise with his feelings about certain things? Or do you deem his "truths" as untruthful? Maybe you don't share his opinions? Or is it the way he presented his post, his rhetoric, that don't suit you? Or a mix of them? Or am I totally off-track?

Now some people (not necessarily you) also think it's a good idea to judge the intelligence of a poster, based upon his post: Look, what a retarded statement; Such a stupid question, the answer is obvious; What a brilliant post, she's a genius; How the hell can he think that? He must be stupid.

As one can never know another's motives, one may never judge another's success. Even if they're told, it might be a lie. The most ridiculous post might be put up just to provoke, or even hurt.

If success can't be measured, then what basis is there for judgement of intelligence?

In the end, we know very little about most things.

I think your thinking is messed. Directing this only at chinese people lol.

Doesn't everyone want to look good and think about their image? Not only chinese people do, everyone does at some point. People wake up every morning looking at the mirror, wanting their image to look good right?

As people have said, western society has done this too, lip synching isn't uncommon in western society either, as the person above has pointed out.

"Athletes who have no life other than train themselves"? Wtf. I'll assume your on this site because your into the Korean Starcraft progaming scene. Progamers spend like most their time training, especially for something special like a final. That is not "no life". The athletes are just dedicated. Wouldn't you be dedicated to something like a final? I'm sure you haven't been dedicated to anything in your life, because I can't even believe that you said the athletes have no life other than training themselves.

I agree on one thing though, society altogether is messed up, not only chinese people think like this. Like other people have stated.

It was a hard decision for China, with their communist history... You know on another forum, people are like "Hey I just arrived in Beijing/ China!" and others are replying "Have you seen any human rights abuses yet?"
A lot of people are stereotyping China due to the media. People touring their are like "wtf are they talking about" (I don't only mean Beijing).

Overall, China should've cared for their image, but not to as low as lip synching. I mean, they had tons of adorable kids walking the flag across the field didn't they? What's wrong with having one child with a beautiful voice, but not as decent looks sing once? People would be amazed at the voice, and the bravery of the child already. I mean, to sing in front of 304094234 people? That's brave for a child, and even for some older people. I remember a few years back, Rain was thought as ugly. Few years later, people realized his talent, and now a lot of girls think he's sexy.

Society and the media sicken me.

I basically pointed out what I didn't like about his post.

So basically, they said: "OK you have an amazing voice, but you are too damn ugly to show you around the world. We will replace your face with a much prettier girl. That way the world will see our children are not only models-to-be but also high class singers".

Pathetic.

Welcome to the real world.
You must be pretty naive if you've got problems with this...

Do you also have problems with "the pussy cat dolls" and "the spice girls"?
