But i dont get what all the fuzz is about, china is manipulative but so is much of our every day culture. Did you know a lot of fashion posters has boys hips photoshopped in the models? Boys have smaller hips thus "better" looks.
Think about that the next time you think "oh shes thight" after seeing a billboard..

i hate the way chinese ppl think... plain and simple... i am chinese born in a western society and there are enough chinese people in toronto canada. they care too much about image. look at the chinese opening ceremony, the buildings they made just for the games and the athletes who have no life other than train themselves to win gold medals. messed up... there are a million things you can bring up and we'll have a never ending discussion about china.

our asses got pwned for thousands of years because we thought we were the best fighters, then a white guy brought a gun and invaded our country and we were too busy fighting EACH other. fuck... makes me sick thinking about it.

how about some groups such as wondergirls? most of them have had plastic surgery many times. because they want a better appearance to go with their singing. whats the point of makeup? to impress. they wanted to make a good impression.

some of you need to GO to china before you insult it in any way. im sure you will change your perspective after you have had multiple meals of beijing duck.

Apparently everything is supposed to be fake in the world then? You are living by low standards my friend. As for patronizing, I find your comments towards the people who are against this much more patronizing. You speak as if we don't know the world is full of fake shit. It's not that we don't know, it's just we didn't bring it up because it wasn't the focus. However when discussing that topic i'd still have the same stand point that it's wrong.

The difference between a magazine cover and an Olympic ceremony, is that a magazine cover sometimes is a shallow attempt at catching a buyer's attention. This is not what the Olympics should be about. If so, then why bother with banning performance enhancing drugs? If images are all that matters, then aren't records all that matter too? The fact is, the 'prettier' girl had less substance and talent than the girl who was deemed not fit. So who really deserved to be up there singing? Just like who deserves a gold medal on the podium.

As for this being confirmed so early. It's a good sign. It's better for the people in charge to come out and say it right away then to make it seem like they were trying to hide the truth. So good for them to announcing it, whether they think they did anything wrong is up to them.

how do you know the difference in the singing talents was large enough to really make a difference? how do you know the prettier one actually lacked substance? would she have been more of a HERO? a hero who declined the offer because she wouldn't be using her own voice? those kinds of characters are cliche and too movie like. this was a one in a lifetime chance to be in front of almost 100,000 people. there obviously must have been pressure from the country and her parents alike. this is not her fault.



in america, many tracks are layered upon a singer's actual voice to soften and distort the voice into a new voice that is beyond the singer's abilities. this "perfect" version is MASS produced. in music videos, buckets of various makeups are slathered onto the singer to create this ethereal, beautiful, being that radiates. on live concerts, the singer once again, has a lot of makeup put on, but may also lip synch. even the infamous beatles admitted to lip synching.

I think your thinking is messed. Directing this only at chinese people lol.

Doesn't everyone want to look good and think about their image? Not only chinese people do, everyone does at some point. People wake up every morning looking at the mirror, wanting their image to look good right?

As people have said, western society has done this too, lip synching isn't uncommon in western society either, as the person above has pointed out.

"Athletes who have no life other than train themselves"? Wtf. I'll assume your on this site because your into the Korean Starcraft progaming scene. Progamers spend like most their time training, especially for something special like a final. That is not "no life". The athletes are just dedicated. Wouldn't you be dedicated to something like a final? I'm sure you haven't been dedicated to anything in your life, because I can't even believe that you said the athletes have no life other than training themselves.

I agree on one thing though, society altogether is messed up, not only chinese people think like this. Like other people have stated.

It was a hard decision for China, with their communist history... You know on another forum, people are like "Hey I just arrived in Beijing/ China!" and others are replying "Have you seen any human rights abuses yet?"
A lot of people are stereotyping China due to the media. People touring their are like "wtf are they talking about" (I don't only mean Beijing).

Overall, China should've cared for their image, but not to as low as lip synching. I mean, they had tons of adorable kids walking the flag across the field didn't they? What's wrong with having one child with a beautiful voice, but not as decent looks sing once? People would be amazed at the voice, and the bravery of the child already. I mean, to sing in front of 304094234 people? That's brave for a child, and even for some older people. I remember a few years back, Rain was thought as ugly. Few years later, people realized his talent, and now a lot of girls think he's sexy.

Society and the media sicken me.

The committee told the media themselves that some of the fireworks 'on television' are only computer image. e.g. the big foot prints, but they did fire those fireworks at that moment, which may not look as good as the ideal ones.

It feels good to have the pretty girl who did NO SINGING whatsoever represent your country, ey? Is China THAT insecure about its image that it resorted to hitting a new low? The girl who did the singing deserved the fame and aknowledgement, not that barbie. But of course, it's all for the "good of the country", right?

All I do is flame? I'm sorry if you think that way, but I generally don't tend to flame...-.- Maybe in THIS thread I'm flaming, mainly because I'm seriously pissed off at this situation.

Have you ever seen me outside of this thread? I don't remember flaming excessively before this thread came. I do remember my outrage in amazerg's stupid "z0mg why cant krns spk eng in engserver pl0z, lolol" thread, but that's about it. Do you even know me outside of general forums?
