Fake Olympics opening singer (3321 reads, 85 replies)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7556058.stm

So basically, they said: "OK you have an amazing voice, but you are too damn ugly to show you around the world. We will replace your face with a much prettier girl. That way the world will see our children are not only models-to-be but also high class singers".

Pathetic.

Happens all the time dude, haven't you heard of ghostwriters?

It's where writers get someone ells to write f.e. a book and then they publise it in their name, with the real author getting a fair cut, but without all the glamour and fame that might follow. (For those who didn't know)

And btw, Denmark will own the Olympics in Beijing!

Well if they didn't do this then they'd have a bunch of other countires saying "What ugly children China has" LOL Can't blame them that much. Not saying the child is ugly, just I mean some people are very shallow, and China officials know it.

Me neither! I dont think the real singer is ugly at all! It just seems too "cruel" (even for Olympics) to do something like this. And like Mrow said, it looks REALLY bad if you get caught.

There are tons of people who care about this. This can only lead to even more people being mad at the Chinese Government.

First off, this shows that image is everything, including in the Olympics. Throw out morals and the Olympic spirit, because what is most important is that the shallow people are satisfied.

Then again, from China's perspective, had they let the other cute little girl with a bad dental plan go on stage, would people have thought...children in China don't get proper dental?

It's a tough decision, however I still think the wrong decision was made. Putting image before talent, has proved once again that China hasn't changed much of its thinking towards it's reputation and pride on the international stage. This is a petty move removing a child's Olympic dream and replacing it with what is 'better' for the state. Really had that cute little girl with the bad teeth gone on, it would not have been ugly. Children have bad teeth, it's normal, it's natural, and the little girl was a cutey too with a good voice. WTF Politburo?

Look at it this way, you have 1 billion Chinese, and the best they could do was to find was an ugly singer to represent the sexy Olympics globally!

If They wanted to do everything perfect, someone must have screwed up somewhere! I don't think china has heared of "Paul Potts " lol, it was kinda obvious someone in the UK found something to poke "Pott" holes at.

I hate how in today's world, the ONLY way to become famous is by looking pretty or being sexually attractive. No talents needed.

Someone should shoot whoever thought of doing this, especially doing that to a talented young girl with high potential, WTF. And I bet that pretty-faced Chinese barbie doll has no talent whatsoever to back up her undeserved fame. This just makes me sick.

I thought US was the major place for "hey, if you're pretty, but have no talent, you're a celebrity anyway" process, but damn, China, you just lost every little respect I had left for you. Now let's forget that Beijing opening ceremony, pretend it never happened. They sure don't deserve the fame.

"Singer Lin, who is being called the "smiling angel", has already become a media celebrity because of her performance.

She told state-run China Daily that she felt "beautiful" in the red dress she wore during the performance.

Her dad told the newspaper that she already had fans all over the country."

Wow, undeserved glory much? Someone expose her for the lying scumbag of a barbie she is.

It's not only China's fault. The entire human civilization has become so corrupted. Most people care about appearances so much these days.

#11, that's exactly what I meant, everywhere in the world, it's all about image and faces, rather than pure talent. But now China has pulled the most embarrassing stunt I've ever seen, any respect I had left for them, they're gone now.

I don't blame only China for corruption of media (my apologies if you took it the wrong way), but in this case, China really screwed up, for the mere "good of the country". That "cute" girl reminds me of Ashley Simpson. Both are lipsyncing liars with undeserved fame and fortune. And most importantly, I dislike both so much...

Pretty much anything Chinese officials do will piss people off, because people are looking to be pissed off. If Chinese officials let a girl sing that didn't have a perfect looking mouth of teeth, people would be bitching about healthcare or poverty or how ugly Chinese people are.. You can't satisfy everyone, and you sure as hell can't satisfy people looking to hate you for any reason.\

I think China is doing an excellent job with this years Olympics, I think everyone is impressed, hopefully this brings good things to people in China as well as every else in the world.

No matter what China did the media would've found someway to criticize... as said above, if the singer was allowed to perform, she and China would end up getting attacked about a bunch of shit that may not be the case (eg. bad teeth --> lack of support for the impoverished and lack of dental care).
Think because of that, and to spare the girl the attacks (be real, ppl nowadays care more about looks than actual voice, just look at singers now compared to those 20-30 years ago), they decided to use a fake. If you think of it logically, it makes some sense at least.

What I don't get is why the officials confirmed it that quickly... and why it got leaked :/

But no matter, the media will look for things to attack. Anyone heard stories about the footprints being fake? (which they wern't, as I have quite a few friends who saw it outside)...

I don't even know why people are surprised or even upset? Have you seen the pop-scene in music the last couple of years? Do the names Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears ring any bells? Exactly the same thing, except it's their own voices but manipulated...

This is just so right that it piss me off. Damn it that so true but the saddest thing in that is that like the 2 post above said if they have choose the other choice it would have been critizice too but at least not by me.

#14, yes it makes sense, but why in the world is the fake girl famous now? Does she even deserve it? She did absolutely nothing except lipsync and look cute in that communist dress of hers. Watch her start getting record deals and clothing lines in the next 5 years, FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. And I bet she's all freaking happy now.

Sorry for the outburst, but I really can't take it when true, talented singers/athletes/pro-gamers/bands gets a smack to the face like that. It's a rotten cherry on top when, at the same time, an undeserving punk gets all the glory for doing nothing but look "handsome" and "hot". Not to mention I generally don't like kids...so...>.>

Society sickens me.

actually the one on the stage wasn't any cute, either ...
and I don't think ppl with a mind will think "this girl isn't cute, thus china has no cute children", that would be pathetic.. this whole action is.
