24 different archetypes shape the landscape of Global Games just two days in

Journey to Un’Goro has busted the metagame wide open.

Journey to Un’Goro might be Hearthstone most diverse expansion as far as entry metagame is concerned. Cards from all sides of the rarity spectrum—from the legendary Quests to the lowest commons—are creating new archetypes or reviving old ones.

Having started just this week, the Hearthstone Global Games is a celebration of the best of Hearthstone: New cards, international competition, team spirit and unprecedented deckbuilding variety. Only ten matches into the five-month league, a total of 24 different archetypes have been played, rivaling in diversity every other meta which has come before Un’Goro.

In these entry matches, Shaman has emerged as the most popular class, with Thrall empowered through the new elemental synergies. The class is still even with 50% win-rate however, so the days when Aggro Shaman would terrorize the ladder with ridiculous win-rates seem to be far behind us, at least for now.

In a weird turn of events, Priest is the best performing class of the tournament so far. With the help of [card]humongous razorleaf[/card], the [card]inner fire[/card] archetype has been brought out of gimmick and into top tier level. What’s more, even without [card]wyrmrest agent[/card], [card]twilight guardian[/card] and [card]blackwing corruptor[/card], Dragon Priest is reaping success, although it’s now playing a more control then midrange style.

In this new meta, several teams have proven themselves a step ahead of the competition. Perceived tournament favorites Russia came on strong against Spain and delivered the first 3-0 stop in the league. Netherlands, Canada and the United States followed suit on Wednesday, blanking Romania, France and United Kingdom, respectively, in what was a shorter playday than most probably expected, given the high level of the competitors.

Week one of HGG will end today with two clashes between Americas and APAC, as Argentina, Australia, Brazil and Indonesia prepare for their Global Games debut.
