Overwatch Pit Championship EU Group B day 3 & 4 recap - Ready, set... Pause

The adventures of the Overwatch Pit Championship continue! More close games, more Nepal madness and more… EU ults!

Event hub

The Overwatch Pit Championship is nearing the end of its EU group plays. We’ve already seen which teams are moving on from Group A, and after tonight we’re down to one final round of Group B games as well. This group has, like Group A, been a pretty even ordeal. Misfits was 2-0 in games before Thursday’s games, even though they haven’t looked their greatest.

First game of day 3 was a Misfits versus Dignitas matchup, where you’d expect Misfits to come out victorious. And well… They did. This after losing Hollywood to Dignitas, and Bromas having computer issues on Hanamura. So a 2-1 win for the Swedes, even if it wasn’t the cleanest of games for them.

(Even if LiNkzr lost versus the environment, Dignitas managed to win Hollywood.)

A memorable game from round 3 was definitely Singularity Ninjas versus Ex-Attax. The Danish ninjas had a very stable strategy on Nepal. Their Ana, Roadhog and Reinhardt stood strong on Nepal: Village, and eventually gave them the win as Ex-Attax just couldn’t deal with it. Later on we saw Movistar Riders take on Hammers eSports, and after fairly close games on both Numbani and Hollywood, Movistar came out victorious with 2-0.

On day four, Misfits struggled a bit with their matchup against Ex-Attax. At first, Hollywood looked fairly easy for the Swedes even though they played rather sloppy. But like all Nepal games so far this tournament, that map was a much closer deal. Ex-Attax did manage to take that map, well earned. Then, after a long game on Hanamura, Misfits managed to close out the game and go up 4-0 in total in the group.

Singularity Ninjas continued to play very well on the fourth day, barely losing to Movistar Riders by 2-1. Singularity impressively full-held point A on Numbani, but then lost Volskaya and Nepal to a slightly stronger Movistar Riders.

(Kolsti of Movistar Riders swingin’ like a champ on Nepal.)

The final game of day 4 was mostly remembered by its large amount of pauses due to Hammers' Fischer having a lot of disconnection issues. Basically the entire map of Hollywood was a pause-fiesta, where the admin tried to keep up with the disconnects, and Hammers tried to figure out what to do. Later on they swapped Fischer for Chipsa, which managed to do very well as a stand-in. Score-wise, Dignitas took Hollywood, Hammers took Numbani making Nepal the deciding game. But Nepal went to Dignitas in the end, so now Hammers have to rely on tomorrow’s games in order to stay alive. Whether we will see Fisher return, or Hammers will continue to play with Chipsa, is still unclear.

(Wait, what? An actual Junkrat?)

After tonight's games, this is what the group looks like:

Tomorrow the last round of games will be played, to see what teams will make it through to the playoffs. Tune in at 18:00 CEST/9AM PST at twitch.tv/overwatchpit. If you want something to keep an eye out for, look for Danii of Singularity Ninjas, which has played a mean Roadhog so far in the tournament. And be on the lookout for LiNkzr, will he finally manage to get onto the boxes?
