Season 4 of Overwatch's competitive mode has kicked off, including some new changes to the ruleset.
In an effort to continue improving the competitive ruleset, both ingame and in tournaments, Blizzard always makes changes when a new season starts. This is why we now have 5-round Control maps, timebank and a better distribution of players over the different tiers.
For season 4, which just started tonight, Blizzard has also included several changes including one we are very happy with:
COMPETITIVE PLAY
General
- Respawn Delay
- When attackers outnumber defenders while taking a control point on Assault, Escort and Assault/Escort maps, the defenders’ respawn time will slowly increase until it hits a maximum value or the defense manages to gain the upper hand.
This should hopefully lessen the frustration created by getting games you know have won dragging out for too long.
General
- Skill ratings below 500 will no longer be displayed.
Maps
- Adjusted the collision in the attacker spawn room on Eichenwalde to prevent players from getting stuck in the pipes
- Torbjörn can now construct turrets on the stairs in Oasis
At the same time, the game itself was patched in an effort to continue balancing all heroes. You can read more about hero changes to Bastion and Mercy, and the change to Eichenwalde's gate here.
Good luck laddering this season!
