Shanghai Major open qualifiers #2, day one progress

The second tour of open qualifiers is the last chance for a spot into the regionals for all the teams that haven’t received an invite and all regions have notable teams attending so, let’s take a look at what happened on the first day.

China

The first open qualifier act was won by a team consisting of the highest ranked players in the CDEC League, namely CDEC Avenger. With that being sorted out all the other teams wishing to jump start or improve their DotA2  career had to start all over again in the second act of Chinese open qualifiers.

VG Potential, EHOME King and EHOME Legend, FTD with all their clubs division, DUOBAO, Brave Heart, TongFu and Energy Pacemaker have signed up once more and all of the squads have made it into the second day..

We are in the semifinal stage and DUOBAO will meet html.cn in the best-of-three match up for a spot in the finals while TongFu will face Brave Heart. Both semifinals and the finals are best of three series. The Chinese bracket is still going on and soon we will have our last team joining the regional qualifiers group A.

Americas

Before we continue with the US team progress, we have to say that GosuGamers.net did not revived or put together any Dota2 team for this qualifier. Although among the participating squads there is one team named GGnet (GosuGamers) and the players who signed up with the name tried to complete the joke entirely using nicknames similar with the official GGnet team back in 2010-2011, again this has nothing to do with us. We appreciate the joke and wish them good luck further.

The usual suspects for a spot into the regional qualifiers act, Elite Wolves, T Show, Luccini and Vegetable eSports have survived again the first day and they will resume the competition today at 19:00 CET. Funny enough, the all-stars line-up of Vegetable eSports will have to face again in their first game of day two the team that eliminated them in the previous open qualifiers, Unique_Techniqu.

South East Asia

The most notable mention for the SEA bracket is Rave’s elimination in the first game of day two, and rather early exits of both MVP.Hot6 and Kingdom in the first day of the competition.  Day two in SEA open qualifiers already started and the first quarter finalists are Knights Spirit.

Europe

Again, the Europe qualifier session had the most signed up teams and the competition is quite tight. Unfortunately STEAK Gaming got eliminated in their third game of day one and their road to TI6 is on hold for now. The same goes for the Greek squad Ad Finem.

Day two of European open qualifiers will resume today, January 6th at 13:00 CET with Kaipi (open qualifiers#1 finalists), Team Alternate, No Logic Gaming, London Conspiracy, Burden United, Power Rangers, STARK eSports and Prodota Gaming among the top 32 teams.
