EG halts streaking Fnatic, advances into D2L Western Challenge finals

Evil Geniuses stopped Fnatic on their tracks, defeating them with the score of 2-0 in the upper bracket finals of the D2L Western Challenge. Fnatic drops down to the lower bracket, wherein they will be matched-up against the winner of the Empire-Natus Vincere match.

Evil Geniuses stopped red-hot Fnatic on the upper bracket finals of the D2L Western Challenge. Both teams are fresh from 2-0 victories against Russian organizations, EG against RoX.KiS and Fnatic against Empire. The European team was particularly impressive, as they actually entered the playoffs as a middle-seed and they made the win against second seed Empire look easy.

It was the American team who ended up victorious last night though, ending on top of consecutive 50+ minute games. They have also defeated Fnatic stand-in Excalibur's famous Meepo, utilizing a big AoE lineup on the firs game and the Doom on the second.

With the win, EG advances into the championship and are now guaranteed at least a second-place finish. Who they will face would be decided by the results of the lower bracket matches.

All the remaining lower bracket matches will be played today. Starting off will be Empire against Natus Vincere at 18:00 CET, and then the winner of that match will advance to face Fnatic at 21:00 CET. Both series are best-of-three. Streams are available in English, Russian, Spanish, German, Vietnamese and Chinese

The winning team of the penultimate series will of course move into the championship, where Evil Geniuses is waiting. The finals will be a best-of-five affair scheduled tomorrow, 24 June, at 18:00 CET.

The Champion of this tournament will get $25,000, half of the total prize pool. The second, third and fourth placer will receive $15,000, $7,500 and $2,500 respectively.

All of the six playoff teams will also receive a portion of the DotaTV ticket profits. The first and second place team will get 25% each, the third and fourth placer will receive 15% apiece and the last two will get 10% each. $14,662 was contributed to the pool at the time of publication.
