Reprisal takes an easy win in ZOTAC #261

No Lucifer in this week’s ZOTAC cup meant that Reprisal was an appropriate favourite.

The human player had to face another undead, but this week’s representative was a few steps down from Lucifer. Cechi started well on Last Refuge, though. He pressured his opponent’s fast expansion despite losing his Deathknight early on. Reprisal put up three barracks and the game became a siege, with +2 attack fiends battling +1 attack, triple production riflemen. The game was incredibly close and it looked like only a mistake could make the difference. Sadly for Cechi, it was he who made the mistake and lost his Lich twice – the second time was after buying it back at the tavern, making it even more painful. Those two micro mistakes really cost him the whole game as Reprisal’s militia were able to cut down fiend after fiend.

If the first map looked close, the second was anything but. Reprisal took an early expansion at his nearest red camp on Turtle Rock. Cechi was able to hamper it slightly, but again lost his hero to some poor micro. Unhindered for a while, the human player took the red camp next to his opponent’s base and set up an expansion which Cechi never found. The two players fought as Cechi tried to take an expansion of his own in the middle of the map, but was simply outplayed by the superior foe.

Secret Valley would be the end of Cechi’s misery. The undead player had looked solid on previous maps, but a few lapses of concentration had cost him dearly. This time, though, it was all about Reprisal’s talent. He took a fairly comfortable expansion and rushed up to siege engines and spellbreakers while making upgrades and defending with just towers. Cechi opted to creep rather than harass, and this left him unaware of the incoming attack. He fended off the siege engines with only at the cost of an altar and some mining time, but Reprisal’s 2/2 breakers rolled over his fiends when the main armies clashed. Three hero kills for the human player then put the match to bed in impressive style.
