Secondary supporters have been under the spotlight throughout 2011, due to the jungling and burst heavy meta that dominated a big chunk of the year. Players playing these roles need to constantly juggle between being aggressive, moving between the lanes, and sneaking up on the opponent's carry, not to mention getting the much needed farm for their core items like a Portal Key, Sol's Bulwark, or Astrolabe just in time to benefit their team the most.
Here are your nominees for the best secondary support player of 2011.
Nominees for Best Secondary Supporter (Jungler/Ganker) 2011:
[fntc] Tal 'Fly' Aizik Specialty:
Arguably the best drafter in HoN's history, the legendary 'Fly' revolutionized the metagame more than once during 2011. Naturally, he also played a vital role in his team's success during the past year with his incredible versatility and in-game decision making.
His jungling capabilities are top notch and he is widely regarded as the best Tempest player around, while his Ophelia is also praised.
[LION] Johan 'Mynuts' Andersson Specialty:
Much like the majority of his teammates, this Swede came out of nowhere and left an instant mark on the competitive scene. His aggressiveness seemed to fit his team's playstyle perfectly at times and was undoubtably one of the main reasons for their success in the second part of the year.
Although mostly filling the jungling role with either Tempest or Parasite, he was also more than capable of filling the sololaning role with his Pharaoh.
[sGty][tdM] Kyle 'Swindlemelonzz' Freedman Specialty:
Love him or hate him, there is no middle ground with 'Swindle.' But the former [sGty] and [tdM] captain left a huge mark on the competitive scene in 2011. His solid jungling and ganking, as well as drafting, was a big factor in making his team what it is today, a North American powerhouse.
Although preferring the super aggressive ganking role with heroes like Pharaoh and Magmus, once the jungling meta kicked in during the second part of the year, he performed solidly with Tempest as well.
[tdM] Zakari 'ZFreeK' Freedman Specialty:
The second of the Freedman brothers received much unwarranted hate from the public on account of his brother, but was always highly regarded by competitive players and community members. He decided to not talk the talk and instead walked the walk, and with his amazing performances, slowly but steadily disproved the doubters.
Not only is he regarded as the best North American jungler at the moment with heroes like Tempest and Ophelia, he also plays a nasty Plague Rider fairly regularly, and his annihilation with it at the NASL finals went into the annals of competitive HoN.
[OK] Marc 'Mag1x' Müller Specialty:
More known publicly for his forum trolling than stellar performances, the German captain is on the back burner of most people's minds when it comes to listing top players. He is one of the most versatile players out there and has played everything from carry to hard support during 2011; however, his ganking performances left the biggest mark.
Neither of his favorite heroes can be objectively considered the best in the world, but the variety of his playstyle is unmatched in this category, playing everything from Andromeda and Witch Slayer, to Magmus and Behemoth, and wrapping it up with a pinch of Tempest.
