Kuzmin Wins WPT Southern Poker Championship

Russian Alexander Kuzmin won the WPT Southern Poker Championship main event at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi. He wins the title, $601,000 first prize and a $25k seat into the WPT championship event.

Kuzmin originally intended to return home from the PCA event, but his ticket required a US stayover so he decided to come to Biloxi for a few days. It turned out to be the biggest win of his career, besting over 220 other players in only his second WPT on US soil. The final table was full of experienced players, defeated a final table full of pros, including past Southern Poker Champion Allen Carter, Shannon Shorr, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Ryan Hughes, and Leif Force.

After 10 hours of play to get it to heads up, Force and Kuzmin battled back and forth for over two hours before Kuzmin came out on top when he shoved k,4 and Force, who was low in chips called with a suited J,9.

4th: Shannon Shorr - $144,985
5th: Pat Mahoney - $113,208
6th: Ryan Hughes - $89,375

Many players will be staying in town to play in the World Series of Poker - Circuit event in Biloxi this next week.
