Trickett wins the 2011 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge

Young British high stakes poker pro Sam Trickett won the $100k buy-in Aussie Millions tournament on Saturday. Short stacked fellow Brit Tony Bloom was his heads up opponent, but couldn't deter Trickett from his biggest win to date, AUD$1,525,000.

The largest buy-in tournament in the southern hemisphere drew 38 entries, the same as the PCA $100k Super High Roller tournament had several weeks ago.

Sam Trickett ran and played well throughout the tournament, leading from start to finish. He doubled up only 20 minutes into the tournament when he check raised top two pair against a player that went with flush and straight draw. Erik Seidel followed up his fourth place in the PCA $25k High Roller event with a third place in this event, to get his year off to a good start in high profile tournaments.

It has got to hurt a little for most of the notable players who didn't make the money; including Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Patrik Antonius, Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Jeffrey Lisandro, Dan "jungleman12" Cates, Tony G., Justin Smith, Joe Hachem, Andrew Feldman, David Oppenheim, Alexander Kostritsyn, and James Bord.

Final standings and payouts (AUD) from the final table:

1. Sam Trickett AUD - $1,525,000
2. Tony Bloom - AUD $ 975,000
3. Erik Seidel 619,000 - AUD $ 625,000
4. David Steicke - AUD $ 325,000
5. James Obst - AUD $ 200,000
6. David Benyamine - AUD $ 150,000
7. Jeffrey Lisandro
8. Chris Ferguson

The second Day 1 flight of the Aussie Millions main event will play out on Sunday.
