Riot Games announce new DotA-inspired game!
In some very exciting news, Steve 'Guinsoo' Feak (one of the previous developers of the Defense of the Ancients mod) and Steve 'Pendragon' Mescon (creator of the DotA-Allstars.com community website) have joined forces with Los Angeles based games developers Riot Games, Inc. to make an all new game, which is said to expand on a lot of the concepts pioneered by DotA Allstars.
"League of Legends will bring gamers competitive battle-arena style gameplay that builds upon and expands on innovative gameplay concepts that were pioneered in DotA-Allstars, one of the most popular mods of all time," Brandon Beck, co-founder and CEO, Riot Games, said. "The team is applying its expertise and passion to producing a game that fuses premium art and gameplay features with deep community tools."
The game seems to be a combination of DotA, RTS and MMORPG. The player controls a 'summoner', who gains experience and items over time, and who can control 'champions', which have passive and active skills very similar to the heroes in DotA.
"League of Legends will feature custom-built multiplayer support including matchmaking, stat tracking, clan support, anti-cheat systems, dedicated in-game ladders and Leaverbuster technology."
The emphasis seems to be on creating a very strong competetive multiplayer community, although there will be a single player with AI controlled bots for newcomers.
It seems the current mastermind behind DotA, IceFrog, is not working on the game. A post from Pendragon on the League of Legends forums said "We have a great respect for IceFrog and all of the work he has done with DotA Allstars. He is not currently working with us on League of Legends."
The first screenshots and the teaser trailer are up now on the League of Legends official site, and the development team is currently looking for beta testers, to begin in 2009.

| Dota - Allstars :D not Dota. There have been so many dota versions by different creators. It's the reason why in the trailer they put "The mind behind Dota - Allstars". Because they did not make dota. Anyways I think dota allstars will continue living on Warcraft 3 till it moves to Warcraft 4 (if they ever make it). I think they will manage to take some of the community from dota but the majority will still remain loyal to the custom map. |

But it's obvious Icefrog is working for them behind the scenes by ruining dota with this 6.55 rubbish so everyone will play this LoL game. |

| #7 & 8 are the biggest fools i`ve ever seen. 6.55b is one of the best version ever and soon it will be the most balanced ever. And dota doesnt get boring with this new version. U play since 6.04. I play since it wasnt even called "allstars" and i can say that this will be a fucking nice version for evryone (gamer and observer) because we will see alot of gangs and alot of random action when few heroes meet each other without knowing it cause the wardplacement will be completly diffrent. games will be faster and more enjoyable to watch. |

| #6 not to be ignorant or anything , but some games are better without good graphic, I'm glad the wc3 graphic is damn simple, no imbax0r graphic at all, just an average simple graphic. Ever played Heroes Of Might and Magic?, i wouldn't even consider improving that games graphic, As i said, Some games are better of without good graphic |

| Alot of desccussions have bin made in threads about SC2. Should Blizzard stick to the skill board or not, so far the anounced that SC2 will have a costume map function! And imo this is why it have bin Expanded for almost a year, can Blizzard compete whit dota? or can they make the gameplay better.! Alot of gamers are waiting for SC2 but imo blizzard canr do better then dota all though thet try.! |

Dota is now a professional sport along with the other big games War3 SC etc. Making this many changes rather than trying to balance and tweak existing content is irresponsible on Icefrogs part. Now I spose your'e going to whine aww but its his he can chop up and do what he likes with it. Do you think Blizzard would dream of deciding one day to just change all the fundamentals of Brood War? No chance in hell. |
| @ #20 dont u get it that icefrog made all this changes cause the community yelled for it ? and maelk helped him alot with that. it does matter what we think about dota its the same like in evry other games. dota has become more competitive then ever before and the problem with that is that a game took 60min+ in the most cases. so evryone wanted a change for the game obeserver and gamer. if u just look at this case. its hmm monday evening 22:00 normaly u go sleep @ 23:00 so u think hmm its to late for 1 dota cause for example @ #ihcs or #dotainvite games need a bit to fill in the best case 5 minutes in the worst 1 hour so its kinda hard to know before how long it will take. whatever. lets say we wait 5 minutes till the game is filled. so now somebody gonna host it and the ingame mode will be decided etc etc lets say we need 10 minutes from adding to playing the game. so if it takes 50 minutes to finish the game evrything is alright cause its 23:00 u can go sleep now and be happy. but lets say the game fills in 30 minutes and u got only 30 minutes to play ? hmm bad luck for you then. what i wanna say is that dota had to many sidefactors besides playing. banning&picking/hosttest/u need all 10 players to be here without anything happening. @ wc3 u have only 1 problem and thats getting a host. which is normaly done from the league or tournament crew. the main problem is dota took 1h30 or 2h to finish 1 game. included picking etc but 2 hours for 1 game ? jesus normaly it s bo2 or bo3 so atleast 2 games are played which takes us to almost 4 hours "wasted" time for the gamer/coverage BEHIND the scene like newsposter or streamer which have to obs/host the game ok they can go afk but still they arent able to do something huge in the meantime. so thats why icefrog changed the game so drastic because we needed it. it feels good to be able to push again with nice strats. it feels good to play completly new stuff. and it feels good to be able to push mid after 25 minutes. we all know that it was possible earlier too but let the enemy have pitlord u are fucked. so the new changes are great and the new mode too. dota will get more competitve now and trust me @ new versions some "pros" will badly get owned from nonames. |
