GosuCup interview with MUFC.Net

We conducted our latest GosuCup interview with Lim "Net" Wai Pern from MUFC, after his team passed the South-East Asian qualifier. Net shared his views on his destined role, support, as well as his view on the clan scene in the region. As Lim is not reachable, via email or private messenger, the questions for this interview have been kindly forwarded to him by the team's manager. Read now what the support specialist has to say:
Hello Net, many know you as a DotA player online, but not many got to see the person behind it. Please tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello, my name is Net and I have been playing in MUFC since it reformed. Previously I was in Cybertime and Nirvana.my

Your manager told me, that you use neither instant messenger nor have an email address. Quite a unique occasion among young people and especially gamers nowadays. How do you manage it?
Well, I am too lazy to sign into my MSN messenger so I just leave it there. I don't use Facebook because it will distract me from DotA. Basically, I can be contacted by informing my manager or one of my teammates (*smiles*)

The reason why we are sitting here is that you just passed the GosuCup qualifier. How did you find the competition? did you have an easy time?
Trust is the strongest team that we met during the qualifier and also one of the top teams in the world. We are lucky enough to pass the GosuCup qualifier, but we know that we have to stay concentrated for the upcoming matches in the tournament.

I might be wrong but, DotA is the number one eSport in Malaysia. What lead you to playing the game and becoming world-class at it?
This question sounds easy, but it's tough for me to tell you why I play DotA. Hmm, I love DotA so I play DotA? (*laughs*)

How did you become a pure support player, instead of a carry, ganker or solo? Was it something that you gravitated toward naturally even back then?
Because I am a noob carry. I don't want to get flamed by my teammates, because of my slow farming-speed.

Not many have seen you play other heroes than supporters. How good are you in other disciplines; do you find them as fun as support?
My ganker is 88% better than Sharky's ganker. Support is fun though and my major role, so I stick to it.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you see support players making? What sets a top support apart from a lower-level one and what is the most valuable lesson, you would teach other support players out there?
The biggest mistakes I see support players making is they steal creeps from their carry and indirectly influence the carry's farming speed. Basically, being a support looks simple, but one needs to pick up a lot of the details with it. Try to decrease the possibility of dying in the game as a support. It's very important.

Is there any DotA player who influenced you to evolve to one of the best players?
No, I was playing DotA just as a hobby. I didn't think that I can play in the best team of Malaysia one time.

The South-East Asian DotA scene - despite rebuilding back now to some extent - seems to have slowed down a bit, compared to the last years where ADC marked 'the' one elite and centralized leauge for teams of the region. Do you miss the old times?
I don't miss the old times. That's past tense for me. I think that in order improve ourselves, we need to look forward and don't look back anymore.

You played in Nirvana.my previously, which kind of was a small rival to your current team MUFC. When you compare the times and the atmospheres in each team, where do you see differences?
The only difference between Nv.my and MUFC is, that I can play without Mushi. Therefore, my level of pressure got decreased, which makes me perform even better than before.

How do you see the current clan scene in Malaysia and Singapore. We have new teams such as GGHT, Orange and MYM, alongside comparatively older squads like AeonSports and Gizmo, that are still around as well. Where do you see MUFC in that field? Top 3?
Yes, even though our team is on a losing spree right now, but I strongly believe that we will come back in the future.

What are your, respectively MUFC's goals for the rest of the year, will you play at one of the big tournaments that come up?
Yes, of course and I am sure that I will keep playing for MUFC at SMM, ESTC, WDC (if we get a sponsor) and many more.

For now you will play the GosuCup groupstage and the upcoming MSI gaming tournament, for which I would like to wish you and your team best of luck. Thank you for the interview. Do you have any last words?
Thanks to my mum and dad for supporting me in DotA. MUFC E-Sports' CEO, Jerry Kok and also our management team. Support our DotA page and cheer me up when I'm lose. www.facebook.com/mufcdota ! See you guys there. By the way, this seems like it's my first interview in my life. Thanks Gosugamers.net
