ESL Major Series drop DotA, hoist WarCraft 3

The Green Skins are now officially back - Photo by: ESL

ESL organisation has announced a new Major Series season with a major shake-up in the disciplines covered, confirming WarCraft 3 and crossing out DotA from the list.

As the German organisation announced 2 weeks ago, WarCraft 3 has been added to the RTS titles within the 1on1 disciplines in Europe's best online league, the Major Series, brandishing a respectable 500€ prize at stake.

On the other hand, Avalon Heroes seems to have supplanted Defense of the Ancients and gets a whopping 5,000€ prize pool. ESL announced that the newly-introduced game is included as a so-called 'publisher game', which means that the developers behind the game are backing it with prize money.

The whole ESL Major Series event puts forward an attractive money-box of 16,500€ for all the games supported, though it accounts for 1,500€ less than the running season's pot.

Makes sense to remove DotA as most of the big teams didn't bother sign up for it, MYM even withdrew them selves.

Isn't Avalon Heroes like the Korean version of a stand-alone-DotA?

i guess u r the same ppl that await every single ESL MS dota game and when it doesnt start on tiem u get fucking mad and now u flame esl as idiots

the decision is 100% understandable, just take a look at the game Tribal.int/AzN today ... AzN showed up with missing players ... they couldn't play ... as a sponsor/organizer of a league i'd be pissed

the organisers made a poll, where u can vote for a game.

the most active community will get a season + 1000 $ prize money

What's this warcraft 3 they're talking about? Those silly ESL organizers don't they realise warcraft 3 is a custom game of dota?

I do agree on the fact that dota teams in the "big league" is a joke, the players sometimes dosnt show up, other times they play whit a wrong nick, so you have to guess who it is playing. SUCKS!
Anyhow, ESL sad they choose avalon heros over DOTA, lets see how it goes.
Dosnt think it will pay off for them, dont even think avalon heros have the same amount of veiwers as a dota game have through stream.
(can anyone name a pro avalon heros player?)

And anyway this means less matches for us dota fans to watch, how cool is that, no matter how much you think ESL sucks?

#19 #28 and others

Why to invest in DotA when the coummunity don't even bother to play on ESL cups and ladders. You all want big tournaments with lots of $$$ but all of you play pubs or just flame on forums

Very good decision !
