Enter the Demon.

Posted by Arnab "AP()ll()" Ghosal 6 months ago
American DotA superstar Jimmy "Demon" Ho was interviewed by Forget-Gaming, and expresses his views about the newly formed team Nirvana and the ongoing tourneys and the evergreen HoN vs DotA issue.

You guys recently joined Nirvana, and hows it going so far?

-"Pretty amazing, this is probably the best sponsor a team like us can ever get. The work ChingChong (Loveen) does is very quick, and he's always on top of things. He's willing to give give give, and take nothing back in return! Yes, its my awesome nick for him because I pronounce Chang like Chong, Ching, Chang... etc haha."

What online tournaments can we find you in the near future?

-"We are currently in F4F, and Gosucup. But for the future online tournaments, you can expect to see Nirvana.int participating in every single one!"

If HoN replaces DotA completely at Lans, will you be going over to HoN or will you stay fighting with DotA?

-"My passion for DotA is unrivaled in retrospect. I attempted to try and manipulate the doppelganger, HoN, but I was extremely disappointed at both the futile attempts to copy a great a game and the way the overall game works. Needless to say i ragequit the third game i played in it. I will always be fighting for DotA and i feel that the rest of the DotA community should join me in this."

Dreamhack promoting HoN

Demon felt it was indeed a welcome move from the Dreamhack authorities as the BYOC with a low prize pool was a hassle for most of the gamers. He also feels that it is the most important that the DotA scene has tournaments with good prize money and exposure so that the community becomes active and more people get interested.
He also expresses his views about the players who are supposedly leaving DotA for HoN. According to Demon, each of these games should be treated separately and anyone who truly loves DotA shall not find anything very attractive in HoN because of the complications in the game. In the end it just boils down to the way you feel about DotA, if you think you have reached your limit in the game and lost interest then move on, otherwise hop on and enjoy.

i also like how the admins only pasted the HoN questions.

Then they complain about the HoN hate spam in the posts and now they are jsut fueling the fire.

When other questions in the interview could have been posted.

Everyone knows that HoN is just a very poor copy (yes, a copy - it doesn't even try to pretend it's special in vital aspect of the game) of DotA, with a few fixes here and there. So let's stop this whole HoN bitching. And before someone starts to argue that DotA is also not a new idea, I have to disagree saying that the this is the only game - of the whole set of games - that evolved in such way that it's still alive.

Make love, not war.

Do you think that DotA has lost alot of players since the creation of HoN?
DotA may have lost players to HoN but definitely not the players that make DotA worthwhile to Fans. My teammates, Fear and Merlini, both attempted to play HoN but disliked it due to the fact that it appears so complicated because of the extra modifications. Even other respectable players like Loda tried HoN but stuck with dota due to both the gameplay and the community.
Hon attracts the regular mediocre players that have not accomplished much in DotA but the true fanatics will remain.

"I ragequit the third game i played in HoN" Sums it up pretty well tbh, it´s obvious you didn´t give the game a fair chance.

"I am honestly GLAD that Dreamhack removed DotA for HoN due to the low prize pools in the event itself" Dreamhack has supported dota for a long time and has been an important event for the dota scene, way to shoot yourself in the foot.

"Hon attracts the regular mediocre players that have not accomplished much in DotA but the true fanatics will remain" Newsflash: If all the players you consider mediocre go over to HoN you won´t have any fans left, nor will there be any tournaments with big prize money.

I agree that dota has better gameplay then HoN for now but I personally think all the great features in HoN make it a much better experience for new players, HoN is a fun game aswell. The players who play dota competitively at a high level are a very small part of the community, as in any other game for that matter.

Demon is an amazing player but in this interview he comes off as an elitist jerk who only cares for himself.

The HoN hate is amusing.

It complicates things? How exactly? I suppose the "complicated" bit is if you join late and you don't know anything about the new heroes?

The reason people don't want to give up on dota is that they already understand things in dota very well, and don't want to adapt to 10-15 new heroes in one go + items and and tweaks to things they already know.

At least HoN is trying to move things forward with a new engine, friends lists, built in clan structure, every game ever played having it's replay stored, permanent stat tracking, server hosting for everyone. These are things you will never see in DotA, because it's only a custom map for blizzard's game.

I don't hate DotA, I don't hate HoN. And I don't think one is better than the other.

If "pro" DotA players contacted the S2 development team saying, "We'd love to make some suggestions about the game to help it become really great." You can gaurantee they'd listen. Thats what a beta is for? Sure they don't listen to every whine and complaint on their forums, but they would damn well listen to a group of the best-ever dota players, and if you don't believe that, then you're just a moron.

#37 +1 ~ Well said.

#42: You just owned yourself with that comment. That last item under dota, "-Balanced Overall", trumps any other advantage HoN would "supposedly" have over dota. You can go wallow in your stat-tracking, mana bar, graphics-whoring game but true online gamers value balance ABOVE ALL. GGNORE

why HON fanboys are here again?
learn to respect DOTA
without DOTA = no lame HON
and btw this is a website dedicated to "DOTA" then why you people still posting here when you're playing HON? want to bring down DOTA? ok, you HON fanboys are the winner, NOT!

Who says HoN players don't respect DotA? It all CAME FROM DotA. Just wish people would actually give the feedback to the developers instead of just bad-mouthing the game 24/7.

In my opinion, the origins of the popular gaming title CS/CS : Source VS DotA/ HoN is nearly the same thing.

CS + DotA = originals worth the long run + competitively

CS : Source + HoN = is more like graphics upgrade for the eye catching gamers/graphic enthusiasts. Other than that, of course the original is definitely the rock!
