ESWC, here we come

Posted by Vincent "em0_llama" Nunes 2 years ago
The joint dream of all DotA fans and players alike came true when the organizers of ESWC announced DotA as one of the games for 2010.

The Electronic Sports World Cup 2010 will be held in Disneyland, Paris and will boast a prize pool of $213,500, which will be divided by the World Champions and their challengers in seven different tournaments.

As with other games, the DotA division of ESWC will comprise of regional qualifiers from 32 different countries, with the winners of each participating in the grand final. The winners will earn themselves $14 000 as well being named the official DotA World Cup holders. The only division with a bigger prize pool is the Counter Strike 1.6 Men's competition.

It has not been said how the tournament will be structured, but it is probably safe to assume that it will follow a similar structure to games such as Counter Strike 1.6.

It is implied that the addition of DotA to ESWC is primarily due to the major push and support shown by the community around the world. Fans will be glad to hear that all their hours spent posting, writing letters and vouching for DotA have not been in vain.

This is a big step for DotA as a profession, as well as the community as a whole. A much needed thumbs up must go to all the DotA fans out there, for they have stuck it out and supported DotA through thick and thin, allowing it to reclaim its spot at this prestigious tournament.

Others games added include Quake Live and Guitar Hero replaces DJ Hero.

Oh dear Lord , thank you ! This is SUCH great news . As people have said before me I dont think everyone truely appreciates how big this is ! Let's just hope that this year it will be more of a success than last time , which was in fact quite a failure for many reasons . Surely though , Icefrog is delivering 100% atm , and I have faith the organizers will aswell . Hopefully this can also bring some retirees out of pension , like Hyhy and Icex3 who recently left the scene . Maybe we'll see Maelk/Hyhy after all ? xD GODDAMNIT THIS IS SO OSSIM NOW GG CREW PLZ NUKE SOME COMMENTS WE DONT WANT HATE HERE ONLY LOVE I LOVE ALL ASIANS AND EU I EVEN LOVE NILSEN1 !! 10 PAGE THREAD WITH LOVE , GO !

It's a great moment for DotA. Hard to believe the first thought of some is to flame about how much superior the Asians are to Europeans. Give it a rest, no?

How can you compair EU to Asia? Asia, or atleast south korea for example is all about gaming and some people have thier job to play the game, in EU we got real jobs etc, so Asia got alot more time to practice and play. But still EU pwnz like npz so eaz. >_>

"Why can't we all just be friends and flame HoN instead?"

We cant flame Hon anymore and defend Dota from the Hon propaganda trolls, cause your in jeopardy of a denied comment http://www.gosugamers.net/dota/thread/483910-no-dota-at-dreamhack-summer-2010/start/40 .

nice to see dota accepted into ESWC. Who can say it's not a serious esport now? :)

#90 Alyyx 2 years ago
This is all because of the murloc addition to DotA...

#91 animalidad 2 years ago
China would take this. Ehome is that damn strong, So strong that its almost unfair. I'm seeing the New Aeon vs Ehome in the Finals.

I hope the sponsor problems gets fixed soon. The real problem of the dota community IMO. It creates disputes and is the primary reason why teams disband.

@slickdragon
Don't start. No matter how much you justify your statements or back it up with facts or how much logical reason you give doesn't give you the right to be an ass.
#92 Xemption 2 years ago
Yes! Good work people, finally DotA is receiving the recognition it deserves!

I'm curious to know who will make it to the final four(Asian?European?Russian?)
OMG to much preasure....so many countries :DD :]]]

WOW the money is a big motive for a lot of teams to take things more seriously fron now on while playing and don't whine

there is no prize money so we don't care about the gaming we only play 4 fun and if we don't feel like it we WON'T PLAY!

Hopefully enough people come out to watch the matches.

It would be awful if the audiences were empty for the DotA matches.

Don't think the DotA community is all that big in france...

Now let's hope all the players and teams will treat this tournament with most of their seriousity .. Not like ENC ...
