ESWC, here we come
Posted by Vincent "em0_llama" Nunes 2 years ago
The joint dream of all DotA fans and players alike came true when the organizers of ESWC announced DotA as one of the games for 2010.
The Electronic Sports World Cup 2010 will be held in Disneyland, Paris and will boast a prize pool of $213,500, which will be divided by the World Champions and their challengers in seven different tournaments.
As with other games, the DotA division of ESWC will comprise of regional qualifiers from 32 different countries, with the winners of each participating in the grand final. The winners will earn themselves $14 000 as well being named the official DotA World Cup holders. The only division with a bigger prize pool is the Counter Strike 1.6 Men's competition.
It has not been said how the tournament will be structured, but it is probably safe to assume that it will follow a similar structure to games such as Counter Strike 1.6.
It is implied that the addition of DotA to ESWC is primarily due to the major push and support shown by the community around the world. Fans will be glad to hear that all their hours spent posting, writing letters and vouching for DotA have not been in vain.
This is a big step for DotA as a profession, as well as the community as a whole. A much needed thumbs up must go to all the DotA fans out there, for they have stuck it out and supported DotA through thick and thin, allowing it to reclaim its spot at this prestigious tournament.
Others games added include Quake Live and Guitar Hero replaces DJ Hero.

ESWC > DH ?
14k... just for the first place... this is epic! I am very glad that ESWC organizers included Quake Live and DotA - these are the games that people play now (in masses), and they are competitive to boot. Who needs War3, Guitar Hero and the biggest crap in the NFS series (i.e., Shi(f)t).
ESWC > SMM ?? maybe ??? hope
awesome!
I have a question: will they keep that old system of them, where a team need to be at least three members from one country in order to be able to play? We have a lot of .int teams. If the old system remains, we might see a lot of teams changing in order to qualify... Also, you need to win the qualifier in order to play? O, like, the top3 are qualified?
LET THE FLAME WARS BEGIN...... HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Cmon Singapore and Malaysia show them how its done again! Aeon and Kingsurf FTWW!
No more eswc qualifier in my country ... T.T
really nice !!! where is the country list ?
Sounds awsome, looking forward to some nation clanwars :)
how can i know whts the 32 teams in ?
We will now see if ASIA > EUROPE holds true HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
i have a question about the spots for dota. the eswc sponers gonna orgnize a tounment in each country and they take winners for eswc or how this works ?
Oh man this this is F****NG BRILLIANT. FNATIC (EnotHOME) FOR LIFE BABY!.. GO LODA. KWOM,MISERY,MIRACLE AND DUCKY!!!!
Woohoo dota has officially been promoted to the level of CS-Women :D
ohh god...its like dream came true
so dota player are happy that dota ganna be played in ESWC and also happy that dota ARE NOT going to be played in dreamhack and get replaced with the better overall HoN ??
hmm @103 dont think that cause only 1 team for each country that means that many strong teams wont make it to the finals. For example chinese have 4 strong teams ehome, sgty (lgd), xfy , CH these 4 teams are definately under the top 32 teams of the world. But just one will make it to eswc, maybe none cause chinese have often problems with lans so far away! u know chinese goverment sucks
thats some great news
$14000!!!!!!So little money for such a great effort.I think World Champions deserve more than that...
Nice. no dota. no hit ESWC.
Long last DotA!
Woah! :) Thats great!
Paris? Wtf? I seriously doubted the asians would bother to go that far.
This is just brilliant! Hopefully bigger prize pool means that the games will be bigger, tighter and therefore more is up for grabs :)
amazing. ;)

I foresee EHome as champions of ESWC 2010.
Good morning
isnt the winner of eswc 2008 still waiting for the price money?
Oh sh1t, that's some epic news. Maybe I could go and see that... and maybe we French could get some better scores here at DotA than in stupid football (don't know the dates, seems like it could correspond)... *Oh, wait, I'm gonna wake up...*
niCe Tournament
ESWC is The Greatest Tournament than all
epic news
Kingsurf for president
if DotA had 40 mil viewers on tv there's quite retarded to not add DotA to ESWC <<
yeah..!
#134 Yes, but it's not the same company owning ESWC now.
OH MY GOD !!!!!!!! That's definitely BEST news for dota ever !! ! ! ! ! ! CONGRATZ Co-gamers :D !!!!!!!!!
if its the same rules of only 1 team per country and 3 players of the same nationality to represent a country then : then ideally in order to get the strongest possible teams in paris : 1. usa-blight 2. sweden - ddt( they go 3 swedish instead of 3 dk if kwom is back) 3. denmark-mym 4. msia-ks/xlo 5. sg - aeon/little/axis 6. indo - digi/axis if they can find 1 more indonesian 7.china-erms... anyone really. but ehome/ftd has to be favourites. 8.vietnam : sb 9.russia : TR hope that all the countries have their preliminaries!
