DotA gets recognition by high profile Counter Strike LAN organizers!

Posted by Maaz "maaz139" Ahmad 2 years ago
Hazard, a well known Counter Strike tournament organizers have decided to include DotA in this years LAN event. With a prize pool of 2.500 Euros, this is definitely an event to look forward to.

This March 4 - 7, Sweden will witness the first ever Hazard Dota tournament. The 4 day event is set to take place just outside Stockholm, and with the large prize-pool it is expected to attract the best of Sweden and Europe.

The tournament will be BYOC (bring your own computer) and will be played as double elimination, 5vs5. There are currently 12 spots for DotA teams, but if more teams show interest Hazard will accommodate more spots for DotA teams.

The performance of this event will decide the future of DotA as part of the Hazard LANs. This is the first major development in the European DotA scene for a prolonged period of time.

Prize distribution:

1. 17.500 SEK (~€1.721, ~$2,475)
2. 5.000 SEK (~€491, ~$707)
3. 2.500 SEK (~€245,~$353)

I had my whines about it being BYOC, but I understand it's a local LAN and chances of us (= Tribal.Int) attending aren't big anyway.

As far as the laptops go: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I GET IT, but having a laptop that costs ~800€ or having a stationary computer for ~800€ is just not the same, performance difference is probably huge.

At DH, Gordan's laptop was on the verge of overheating more than once and other guys had some problems as well (Playmate borrowed Synderen's comp to have better playing conditions?).

I don't get why the big LANs are in Sweden. There are no good teams or players from sweden.

@blah278

You make some good points about the problem with BYOC. We DO want this event to grow large and we want to be recognized internationally, and we realize that as it is right now, not many teams from outside scandinavia can afford attending.
We are currently looking into a way of letting foreign teams rent cheap computers to play on, but sadly we most likely won't be able to seal the deal in time for this event. If everything goes well and we manage to make enough money to cover our expenses we will almost certainly have a larger prize pool and the option of renting a computer for our next event.

And for everyone who CAN bring a computer to Hazard, welcome, and good luck in the tournament!

@107

Congratulations, Fluffigt, on a great event that, I sincerely hope, will grow into a big, recognized, annual LAN and Dota tournament. I've checked your website, read a little bit about your previous years LANs and you guys certainly seems to be taking care very well of all the organisational and technical aspect of this things.

Trust me, I've organised some big LANs, back in the 2003/2004 days (I don't know if you ever heard or remember about a LAN called "LAN Arena", was taking place in Paris, 5000 persons, i was one of the organisator). And I know this is HUGE WORK, don't worry I know :p

Best of luck to you and big congratulations. I'll be waiting for your Dota tourney next year, and if prize money grows and computers problems gets taking care of, I can guarantee you the cream of the cream of the international Dota scene will come to your event. I'm 100% sure of it.

Take care =)

On behalf of whole Sweden:
You got us. Yes, we're too poor to afford computers, that's why we have this BYOC-thingy. Random UA-guy was right.

Outside my window right now there's corpses of people whom've starved to death, getting eaten by polar bears. Since we no longer have the money to pay Dolph Lundgren for protection against the polar bears they've been roaming the streets freely, berserking their way to complete armageddon.

Also we're so greedy that we don't any foreigners getting our LAN prizepools. If you somehow decides to go anyway, you might consider bringing a shotgun.

How foolish of us to belive you wouldn't figure this out.
