DotA gets recognition by high profile Counter Strike LAN organizers!

Posted by Maaz "maaz139" Ahmad 2 years ago
Hazard, a well known Counter Strike tournament organizers have decided to include DotA in this years LAN event. With a prize pool of 2.500 Euros, this is definitely an event to look forward to.

This March 4 - 7, Sweden will witness the first ever Hazard Dota tournament. The 4 day event is set to take place just outside Stockholm, and with the large prize-pool it is expected to attract the best of Sweden and Europe.

The tournament will be BYOC (bring your own computer) and will be played as double elimination, 5vs5. There are currently 12 spots for DotA teams, but if more teams show interest Hazard will accommodate more spots for DotA teams.

The performance of this event will decide the future of DotA as part of the Hazard LANs. This is the first major development in the European DotA scene for a prolonged period of time.

Prize distribution:

1. 17.500 SEK (~€1.721, ~$2,475)
2. 5.000 SEK (~€491, ~$707)
3. 2.500 SEK (~€245,~$353)

This will at least hopefully bring teams like DIPS, MYM and other scandinavian tops.. Maybe even tribal and DMZ?

BYOC = shit of a recognition

#5 yes, of course it worked, but when you have to play bring laptops (which, jutw btw, aren't known for better performance than stationary computers) across half the Europe, then that's just shit. Some people do not live so close to Sweden to have a luxury of being able to bring a normal PC without bigger problems (SUCH AS AIRPLANE).

why byoc? dota (wc3) doesnt need a very high config to run...

To the people who whines about the BYOC shit.
Host a fking dota LAN with similar prices in your own country then?
#24 blah278 2 years ago
@21

Yeah they are so smart that in a LAN with 2500$ Prize, you have to bring your own computer from half over the world if some great players want to participate. And they already have to pay airplane tickets anyway ...

This is bullshit. Total fail.

I mean comon, how hard could it be, even for some LOCAL organizers or anybody who could put such prize money, to just arrange 10 PCs, not necesseraly new, could be some local swedish guys own computers from the LAN, even with OLD HARDWARE(wc3 runs perfectly fast on any LOW-range PC of 2009, everybody knows that), on the side of the lan, just for the tournament, even if games have to be played one after the others, non-stop.

I know players would prefer to have to wait and chain games in a good atmosphere (especially for 2500$ ...), rather than this BYOC BULLSHIT.

Way to ruin a good initiative.

this is the first time they arrange a dotatournament.
if it's a success, they might fix computers for next time.
im sure they will get enough teams just from scandinavia whom can bring their own stuff.

#27 0tso 2 years ago
People are crying so much about BYOC when they should be happy there is a competition in the 1st place!!

Because as opposed to sand countries like #25 in Sthlm there isn't a problem to find 5*12 teams who are willing to bring (rent or borrow) a PC....
#28 blah278 2 years ago
Yeah, but for 2500$ we want to see stars and real competition.

We don't want to see 2nd rate local scandinavian teams getting pubstombed by a big scandinavian team showing up at this lan and taking advantage of the situation. For example MYM, or a mix of Swedish/Danish Stars playing "a la Dota Pride" and bulldozing their way to the final over unknown teams, so that they can split the money afterward.

Because that's what gonna happen with this BYOC bullshit.
#29 blah278 2 years ago
@28

Nice name calling, you started it thoo ...

Well, at least in our "sand countries", we don't have BYOC LAN, but we don't live in igloos among Polar bears and we can go to the beach every day of the years without wearing a Ski suit.

What ?! That's cliché ? Oh but you calling us "Sand country" what SOOOOO not cliché, right ? Moron ...

#30 meRzinator 2 years ago
hm i thought that since this tournament is nice enough to offer some random guys to get 2500$ just by playing a game they love the least u can ask in return is for them to bring a PC?

yea when u can earn some extra cash by playing the best game in the world, why not make even bigger demands so the organizers think you are 12 year old punks who only wants stuff... that way other organizers and sponsors are sure to get interested in this game!

gg wp, merz out.

#31 Qured 2 years ago
Oh please. Some people actually host a tournament with ok prizemoney for a local LAN, and half gg.net instantly starts whining.

#32 AWRNSS (Junior Editor DotA) 2 years ago
Yeah, a lot of top teams will cross half of the world with their laptop (if they have one).

@31

Ahahahahaah.

Objectivity, Merz ... BIG TIME !!! Where are you from, once again ?!

AHAHAHAHAH

Is it me or the Only "Pro" players who are actually supporting that BYOC bullshit are FROM sweden or scandinavian ?! It has nothing to do with it, right ?

Mark my words Ladies and gentleman, the only hypocrits amongst the pros who are gonna support that non-sense WILL BE FROM SWEDEN OR SCANDINAVIA.

What I told in #29 WILL happen :

"2nd rate local scandinavian teams getting pubstombed by a big scandinavian team showing up at this lan and taking advantage of the situation. For example MYM, or a mix of Swedish/Danish Stars playing "a la Dota Pride" and bulldozing their way to the final over unknown teams, so that they can split the money afterward."

Swedish guys are happy, because they can grab the cash easily, WITHOUT any serious competition whatsoever.

Only swedish guys support this, but it has nothing to do with it, and that's totaly random, right ?

Go try to fool some other retard plz, only people with fecal matter in their brain will not see throu all this ...

#35 What the hell is your problem? This is an opportunity for local teams to compete, isn't it? If you can't go, too bad, there are more LANs to come. At least try to be happy for the sake of dota. Every LAN can't compare to Dreamhack or SMM among others T_T

#28 +1

#36

Another swedish ?!

AHAHAHAH oh my god, I'm so right ...
1
#37 NiNJAMiDGET 2 years ago
#37 Imo, it doesn't really matter where I'm from, I would've supported it anyway since it keeps dota alive. What do you really have against it anyway? No kuroky? If you don't like the LAN, ignore it then?
1
#38 Sugarway 2 years ago
If you dont like the rules ... so dont need to participate. End story ?? why blah278 so serious ?? They try to hold a tournament..i dont get what the BYOC problem is ??
1
#39 poega 2 years ago
Really dont see the problem of BYOC. I brought my computer over the atlantic like np, its not a big deal! also, u wont have to deal with some fatty having nasty fingers, gotta stay clear of the fingerherpes!

This is awesome in every way and I'll be the first to admit my completely homosexual attraction for #21, along with a disgusted dispise of the noobs who flame this tourney for having byoc.

#40 fr3nzity- 2 years ago
I'm not swedish, but I totally support the swedes on this one.

actually i bought my computer to germany once for a BOYC LAN, and blah278 im pretty sure you wouldnt attend anyway even if computers were handed out at the event for free. and if you did, u would make an even bigger fool of urself.

#44 verm1lion 2 years ago
IS IT HARD TO BRING YOUR COMPUTER? =D i play on my new laptop so for me its easy to bring it :D hazard is just a normal lan ofc they dont have tournament computers there ..yet
1
#45 bson 2 years ago
What you guys haven't realised yet is that this is quite a small lan. I've attended it my self some years ago, but it's getting better and better each year from the looks of it.

The reason for the BYOC is simple because it's a small lan in the Stockholm suburbs. Most of the prize money is coming from the teams attending, paying for their seats, atleast that how it works for the CS-tournament.

I guess they are expecting mostly local teams, with the exception of some scandinavian ones.

Don't try to compare Hazard to one of the bigger tournaments, cause thats not Hazard. If you on the other hand enjoy playing dota and also enjoy having a good time laning, maybe I'll see you there.
Hazard might be small, but it's simply great being there. The people working are friendly and very helpfull.

#35 Why would you make such a big deal out of this BYOC. Hazard aren't marketing them selves as SMM might have done, so why do you even bother?
#46 blah278 2 years ago
#43 You pay the computer, I attend right away, if you want a DOTA lesson. You may even be surprised as to who i am. Deal ?

Or are you just talking out of your rear orifice ?

In the meantime, I'm holding to my theory, and I know why all you guys with Scandinavian flags are SO HAPPY and SOOOO Objective about this BYOC 2500$ LAN ...

does any1 know what "ff" mean in the rule list it was said :
The game is over when a team’s “Ancient” (the throne/the tree) is destroyed, or when two players from the same team write “ff” in the chat.

FF = Forfeit

You're welcome. =)

To hire a computer is around 30$. I don't know wether that's too much or what. You know what, I can even pay it. Go book a flight

#50 Heeda 2 years ago
#48 its means forfeit, 1 team gives up.

#30 We dont have polarbears in sweden :D:D and we can go to nice skiing places and its hot in the summer here so we can go to the beach whenever we want without leaving our highly standard country =)
