GosuGamers is a community that works hard for high standards both when it comes to newsreporting and sportsmanship, but also among the users within its community.
Unfortunatly the DotA section has had some problems in its forums and comment sections. To ensure everyone a pleasant stay and in an attempt to increase the quality of the discussions GosuGamers has decided to bring down the hammer on those who try to ruin this.
To create a high quality community takes lots of work, and the least pleasant part of this work is to punish our users. But when members step out of line this is necessary. Our moderators will from now on start becoming much tougher against spammers, flamers and trolls. There is no place for such behavior on this site, and it only ruins the experience for serious members wanting serious discussion about the game we all love.
We refer to our rules, which are not changed (you can find them by clicking here). Rather, we will start enforcing these rules more strictly. Also, there are a few things we want to emphasize more heavily since there have been problems with them:
- Only one account per person. We do not want to find out you have been pretending to be someone you are not, or trying to get away from warnings and bad behaviour on another account. Such accounts will be locked on sight.
- No spamming! Posts like "1st" or similar will not be tolerated. Other posts that are completely irrelevant to the discussion also goes under this note. Do not derail or dillute discussions!
- No flamebaiting! Purposefully trying to trick people in to a fight is as bad as starting the fight out right yourself.
We ask everyone to respect this. The best day of a moderator is when he does not need to do any work, because the reasons moderators are here are because we will love the forums. We ask everyone to help us with this by not feeding obvious trolls, answering or giving attention to users and posts that flagrantly break the rules and try to ruin the discussions. Instead use the report button and let us moderators deal with it.
Naturally good natured jokes and encouragements like "good post!" does not go under our definition of spam or thread derailing. We all like a laugh.
Hopefully this will give more room for quality discussions and encourage users to enjoy our forums even more.

| I think it's not going to work. Dynamic IP + just opening the account when you are going to post and checking before what you've already posted prevents all the punish you can do. |

| This is good (: Btw,if u want forum to be better,you need to add more DotA sub-forums sections(Competitive DotA,DotA strategy etc) I mean all other games here have more then 2 sub-forums only DotA has one! This has to be changed. |

| #7, its spelled "damnation". #6, this isn't a result of a whine a couple of days ago, something like this was being worked upon for quite a while. Everyone must have felt a need for it and its finally here now :); hopefully, it rids the players of any "bullshit" excuses as you put it and at the same time, does actually result in better discussions all around. #2, you aren't being helpful, there is a time and place for jokes. When you do inappropriate things at the wrong time and wrong place, that's inexcusable. You posting "2nd" in this thread is analogous to someone laughing out loud in someone's funeral or someone crying in someone's wedding. Such deviant behaviors will not be permitted. Of course, there is no intention to stifle the creativity of the community, or impede upon the right to free speech. For example, if someone was to make a proper forum post ranking the teams around the world based on actual statistics and present his speculation, it would be fine. But posting "Asia>Eu" or something similar in a replay or a news post isn't acceptable at all. Next time something like that is seen, joke or not, the user is getting locked. People should realize that rights come with responsibilities, that's part of being in a community. If you don't fix your attitude, you will only become an obnoxious troll in any community. Consider it a stroke of good fortune that you are locked for a week only, take the time to think over your actions :) |

| Only bad thing about a mod, if somebody openly insults them over gb/mail/forums...they can only nuke/lock so many times, and banning somebody requires a good justification...i would know since if i had my way back then it would be like there goes the neighbourhood...but u simply can't do as much as you wanted to :3 PS. newish mods, if u really wana ban somebody check for double ips, chances are the trolls all have dual or more accounts...good reason as any! |

It seems that way because most of the hardcore trolls are some of the most active visitors to the site (ironically :() but truth be told, they make a much larger number of civilized people turn away from the site. So, if we create a healthy community, we can thrive easily, it will only get better, not worse. I would be willing to trade a few hits for a better community any day anyway. #33, people can actually talk about the replay instead of only posting those insensible remarks you know. |

| Thumbs up for the post and I really support the idea but there is one thing i would like to add: Posts like"The best Lina ever" are annoying, i agree. But if people want to see a Replay with a good Lina in it for example, they search the comments. So if you say the same thing in a way that shows, that you have seen the replay and really focused on the one hero like "This Lina is worth watching because of the nice ganking style" the comment shouldn't be denied in my opinion. |

| Great change, I'm all for it :) Don't be afraid to set an example with the harshest offenders, hopefully this will make the DotA community a nicer, cleaner community. Doubtful, but one can hope I guess. Maelk isn't the only one complaining about the DotA community, and all the whines are completely justified. It's full of whiners, flamers, flip-flopers and all sorts of people with the wrong attitude. I'd hate to be a pro and have a mediocre game and go see my game get flamed to bits, or whatever. And the flame wars are extremely annoying. Anyways, good chance! I hope that GG continues to strive for excellence in the future in all things WarCraft and StarCraft. |

| Some of the "troll" comments are actually funny, while others are quite annoying. But who's to say what's funny and what's not? Anyway I agree that the situation demanded dire measures. Let's hope this will work without making the forums boring or less funny. |
