Team Smackdown: New Game & New Team for LodA

Posted by Arnab "AP()ll()_TTFU" Ghosal 2 years ago
LodA ventures farther away from DotA

An announcement made by ButtonBashers.com last Saturday declared the addition of HON into their gaming list.

They further revealed that LodA along with his newly formed HON team Team Smackdown will be representing them.

Loda is currently busy competing in the HoN League: Check-Six Sidewinder Tournament together with the best teams of the United States and Europe. They had played their first match at Wednesday 11 January.

The team will firstly attend LANs in Europe and grow towards International events. The first event they are preparing for is the Multiplay iSeries 39 in April, with £1,000 at stack (£2,500 for 48 teams & £5,000 if 96 teams sign up).

Lineup:
United States Josh "Blastbark" Lee
Sweden Jonathon "Loda" Berg
Sweden Marc "Polisen" Törngren
Sweden Niclas "Niqua" Westergård
Sweden Konrad "kottfaerzoes" Jonasson
Sweden Martin "Mantisc" Holmqvist (Backup)

This was my oldest criticism of the DotA clones -- they will fracture the DotA community. That would not be so horrendous if the gameplay of HoN et al was on the level of quality of DotA, but it really isn't. It's a fun and pretty game but it will fade out very quickly due the lack of competitive ability and then we have nothing, while some opportunist gaming company has made a profit off the successfully leeched community.

As for LODA: I have nothing but kind words and thoughts for all the time, strong character, laughs and nice DotA games. Thanks for doin' it, man. Have fun now.

Edit: And yes, I am taking it as implicit that If Loda is a pro player with another game, it means that he's not going to maintain the same level of connection to DotA.

Lastly, a bit of advice to the HoN community: If your game ever gets huge with a lot of people posting comments, watching live games, and discussing the game in forums, you must guard with an iron fist that trolling and flame wars (especially something like Asia vs. European ethnic conflict) do not begin to dominate the discussion. It's depressing to take part in such an environment (which happens so often on the web) and eventually the reasonable people quit, realizing that it's mentally unhealthy to keep reading about how much 'the Euro suck' etc.

K guys, If you read my post you noticed I tried to give you all another shot. This is not the place to flame Loda or talk about DotA>HoN or HoN>DotA
