SMM has just finished. The finals between CommeDieu and FTD was a great match to be seen.
SMM has just come to a close. China did not disappoint fans as they did extremely well in this tournament. Here are the placings for SMM09:

| The problem with the style shown victorious in SMM: Its not my game. For me, DOTA should be lots of ganks and actually a battle between the players (in a more direct way than just who can kill more creeps). But since this is the most promising style at the moment, they cant be blamed for this. Now it's time for Icefrog to make the game more fun to watch (and play). No one can tell me they actually enjoy seeing 6 out of 10 players farming their ass off while the others stand by to wait for anyone to make a move. |

| The death of dota is near.. don't ask me why.. cause you know why no wonder vigoss/slahser/maelk/angel lover quit playing because its not fun anymore.. congrats to FTD and SMM for killing the dota scene.. it would have been better cT vs MyM, clash of entertainers or Kingsurf vs Ehome that would've been better. |
| People say it's boring because there weren't as many kills, but people need to realize that the kills didn't come because of excellent positioning by the Chinese teams, and to a lesser extent the other asian teams. Team fight for Europeans: 5 heroes gather on one side and 5 heroes gather on other side One team initiates Everyone ults and casts spells Everyone commits 100% and a lot of people die Team fight for Asians: Heroes gather and constantly move around waiting for best time People wait for perfect time some more as heroes constantly change position Team fight begins and 1-2 people die, usually one on each team. Rest escape Whereas European and North American teams rush in and commit everyone to a team fight, the Chinese teams just waited around for the exact right moment to connect. That is why you always saw tidehunter ulting one or two people only and Enigma ulting 1-2 people. People didn't rush in and get caught like MYM did. This is also why Asian teams can pick heroes that are not so heavily AOE based, because AOE heavy strats fail in the end as no team will get caught by AOE. They can pick single-target heroes like drow and lycan and medusa that have less AOE power because of superior positioning This leads to more farming from the less aoe based heroes and therefore leads to the stronger late game heroes winning (usually) In my opinion anyway |

I hope this would mean more sponsors and tourney's to come. Just imagine the country which has the biggest economy in the world becoming SMM09 champions. I expect great things for Dota...see you next year for one of the biggest Dota tournament in the world to be held in CHINA. |

| #111 Kingsurf and EHOME are my two favorites also, I was really looking forward to a grand final match between the two. Even among the Asian teams, few come close to Yamateh's level. I have to give credit to cD though, the insane pressure they put on with their style of pushing must be really stressful for their opponents. I was kind of expecting the grand final match to be played between EHOME, cD or Kingsurf but never would've guessed FTD would make it this far. Grats to them. #112 If I was a professional Dota player, I'd prefer to join EHOME. Whatever training they have must be "very something" (quote from EHOME.GK) if they're able to perfect their training and produce the results they did this SMM by starting the practice only 10 days prior to the event. Training without the need for excessive practice time and to be able to play this well at such a high level of Dota is just amazing, both physically and mentally. |
| #107 Couldn't have said it better myself. Though I'd like to add that because of what you mentioned above, the Asian style of Dota takes less risks while maximizing results in teamfights. If two teams clash with one another, there has to be a winner and a loser. With EU's style of teamfights, the loser pays the price by losing a tower or two while with Asians, more often than not this is not the case. |
| well, chinese dota is the most strongest right now. but theyre too cautious. which PROLONG the duration of games. yes, its the most effective playstyle ive seen so far(FTD), but it will definitely not draw any attention from the audience(well, except hardcore dota fans that is :P). like in all e-sports tournament, only a handful of audience is seen watching the dota division. and if it continues to be like that, all big tournaments like dreamhack, WCG, etc. will take dota out. if this is how competitive dota is gonna be, then i dont see any reason why dota will even continue being an e-sports game by the next year or two. |

| 107, really good point. When 6.64 came out, we saw a lot of force staff usage, a lot more gank oriented play, which lead to the assumption that 3 carries is utter stupidity. But what SMM has showed is that, there is nothing stupid in DotA. Many of the hero picks would be described as crap and pub-like, but these pro teams just showed how effective tanking can be. Medusa and Visage absolutely unkillable in team battles, slithice insane solo farm. Its shocking that sand king was used so less, such a great hero against mass pushing. Also against the illusion oriented game play, teams could have considered Obsidian Destroyer + OmniKinght. I don't know why such combo's were not attempted. |

| Lol, no offence even though im not a pro but i have the tourney experience to tell, most pub teams will pick more stunners or heavy Aoe draft when they join tournament.Top Asian Teams are immune to gank......even MYM team knows that. There is so much local tournament goin on that asian amateur team is expectin lame AOE drafting by new teams. Basically one AOE like tide is sufficient enuf. Besides, don blame Asian for ricing as we play and train more than 6 hours per day perfecting our last hit .... and little secret on how we train last hit . pick a hero and use it against AI (without item) and then we play one on one like basketball in USA (streetbasketball) .dat's why their dribbling skills is much better than other part of the world. Therefore farming out the max gold in certain period of time regardless how hard you were ganked is part of our ASIAN training. one more secret on how we train our positioning. As you know asian internet connection is facing lagging,spike issue everytime we play online. A wrong positioning during lag/ spike will coz your hero to get killed. Fog play training starts from here.(i guess :) By perfecting basic movement like many other sports will enable you to move on with advance game play, as for dota, asian always go for surprise pick becoz we have a very strong basic in playing dota. This is another reason to explain why asian team able to detect the flaw during massive gang fight. starts from positioning to heroes type. We know which heroes to bring down first and unlike Euro depends on AOE to get a massive kill. THis is wat we call The Art of War. Remember, we are too used to being gank and facing a heavy aoe team. |
| final was seriously on a really HIGH level of play, BUT is was REALLY boring to watch. Its like in football, when no team "wants to lose", so they all stack up their defense, run around im midfield doing nothing but passing the ball from one to another (in dota farming all day protected from roaming warding supporters). then in football after 90min the game is over while in dota all this boring thing happens as long as one team decides to do something or realizes that they will lose in end-game cauz of minor heros picked. as happened for kinsurf. they realised that pl will own them in late, they tried to push, but they let ennemys farm so much, they always can rebuy. its called 0pressure-dota and that is what u always get when u play like this: ppl with better heros for late and the better item-choice win. there was NO game won by a mistake done by one of the players, at last i cant remember one! nearly always the heros and farm / items decided the game, not the players, that is what i find kinda-sad. (i mean the finals here and was referring to kingsurf vs ftd, there were exceptions though). |
| Actually #40 , skill would mean adapting to the situation quickly and reacting well , timing every action as well as possible and keeping cool . In those terms i really don't think ftd were better than ks for example . They won , with absolutely no enjoyment for the viewing audience , but a win is a win . And you generally expect the closing stages of a tourney to give you great actions , this tournament didn't live up to all it's hype in the end |

| #134 plz don't talk like no brain...New MyM roaster beat fnatic in their 4/6 meeting, and beat almost all other europian teams, showed they are the best among Europe. They did come to SMM but knocked-out in group stage after lost twice against 2 Malaysian teams (inc.xlo and FTZ). |

| For me, the turning point for sGty (FTD) vs Kingsurf, is Ks desperation of bottom push. Vengeful swapped SF too fast since none of his teammates are near, and the sudden blink ulti from Tide when his teammates are retreating. 2 fatal mistakes I would say. Credits to sGty for having such great map control, and being calm and calculative. |
Euros always complain about how late gamers dominate the current patch of dota..They say "Icefrog should do this and that in order to have a ganking style of play"..What these fools dont know, when that thing happens, do they think asians will play the same as they would right now? Heck they would adjust and make a better strat than the rest of the euro noobs  Strats are made to win games, not just to entertain people.. if you win, you get entertained.. its like US vs ARGENTINA basketball..US entertains, argentina wins the game :D simple |
| well,i've been reading some of the comments around here and i've really got this to say to the europeans: 1. Please stop acting like a kid and going around complaining about other people's command of the english language. As far as i can see, lots of european losers and whiners here are simply pathetic or dumb. Why do i say so? This is simply because they keep coming up with the exact same reasons/excuses whenever they try to rebut the asian's comments. PS: To those europeans who thinks that they are fucking smart, please learn to READ and type in PROPER english before you go around commenting on other's English, thanks. 2. Stop giving 1000 and 1 excuses. As pointed out before, the last ESWC dota competition was won by an ASIAN team, despite their numbers being OUTNUMBERED by EUROPEAN teams. Don't understand the meaning of the word OUTNUMBERED? Then open your fucking dictionaries, dumb EUROPEANS! 3. If you don't like the match coz' it's boring, DONT FUCKING WATCH IT. You don't pay a single cent to watch the replay so why complain here? The competitor were not PAID to entertain you, nor were they PAID BY YOU EUROPEAN IDIOTS, so STFU and get lost if you find it boring. Are you people dumb or what? | In order for DotA (or other similar RTS) to go far, such as being a pinnacle in E-Sport, it has to be entertaining. It must has the ability to caught outsiders interest, not just those that play the game. What makes DotA so interesting for us here is, it involves a lot of in-game skills, strategies, teamworks & hero choices. Plus it's a 5 players team game. But most of the time it's complicated for outsiders to understand what is happening within the game. A lot more ganks/clashes oriented way of DotA would certainly pull more crowd attentions thus attracting more organizations to put in money into the game (be it sponsoring teams or organizing tournaments). The China teams just showed the world, v6.64 effective ways of victory. Which involves split farms/pushes and some defensive plays. Kudos to them. So now it's down to IceFrog to make adjustment and changes in the coming version to be more exciting to watch. I believe there is a person here suggests on putting some sort of limit on buyback, which I think is a pretty good idea. Given that in DotA, victory is achieved for whoever that destroyed the opponent tree/throne first. A certain changes on this, such as heroes kills/deaths, barracks & towers break/lost that can affects the tree/throne might encourage players to be more aggressive/offensive. |

| If the tournament was based on sexy replays, FTD would rank somewhere very low, while KS, SB, MYM, etc.. would dominate. But the tourney's based on winning, and during this patch, the boring, triple-carry, turtle-defense dominates. Time for a new patch. |
