The CEVO playoffs
Posted by Rastko "Faek" Simic 2 years ago
The Cyber Evolution Professional (short: CEVO-P) season has reached its end, and it is now time for the playoffs. At the moment, it seems to be the only stable league in North America, Pride of America being terminated mid-season and the coming season of Confrontation of the Elephants isn't coming at all, but is, in fact, canceled.
8 teams are still fighting for the prize pot and the glory, in the "Double Elimination" format (a team has to lose two games to get eliminated):
1st - $250.00 cash + Free entry into CEVO DotA Season 3 ($100.00 value)
2nd - $150.00 cash + Free entry into CEVO DotA Season 3 ($100.00 value)
3rd - $100.00 cash + Free entry into CEVO DotA Season 3 ($100.00 value)
The season ended with the top 8 in the following order:
1.
Poker Stars2.
Team EG3.
PZ Gaming4.
Ohh Baby5.
DeciSiVe Gaming (or Damage Inc, as they've found a sponsor)6.
Global Domination Time7.
Area 51 Gaming8.
FyC-eSportsGosuGamers will provide bets for the matches, assuming the CEVO schedule is updated quick enough.
Tjernobylbarnet of GosuGamers has made predictions for the first round of matches.Poker Stars vs. FyC-eSports
Poker Stars is one of the hottest teams in America right now, winning all 8 of their season games, including a much deserved victory over their perhaps biggest rivals EG. With that said, FyC will get a tough game, they've already lost once to Poker Stars this season and their mighty signature Sniper pick. The prediction for the victorious team is Poker Stars.
Team EG vs. Area 51
A similar case as the one just mentioned, EG got some of the best players in the world and a great line of experience. Puppey will probably not be playing this match since the rosters in CEVO are locked once you enter playoffs, but they might have added him before that. Nevertheless, the time zone is still off for both Puppey and Azen. 51 has a strong team, but whether they'll be prepared enough for this showdown or not is yet to be found out. Furthermore, EG have showed the European scene a few rumbles as well, so the predicted winner is EG.
PZ Gaming vs. GDT
Although GDT played an impressive gank-oriented game against 51 the other week, PZ gives appearance of being the stronger team. They've recently beat Blight in the playoffs for Pick League (however lost to Poker Stars the game after). They've also managed to pull off a strong season so far while GDT have been showing a less stable performance level. The prediction as follows: PZ.
Ohh Baby vs. DeciSiVe
Finally, the game that's the hardest to predict, both teams looking strong and equally skilled. This match can really go either way, much depending on who gets the Sniper + Slardar combo. The tangos will wisely be placed on whomever has the lowest percentage, but if a prediction have to be done (which it does): Ohh Baby. It is, however, somewhat of a coin flip.
Lots of these games will probably see Sniper banned. Once Poker Stars showed the power of the dwarf, most of the American teams embraced him. Recently, Europeans have played him as well whereas both MYM and DTS have had successful attempts.
Realizing that all four predicted winning teams are the top 4 of the season, and they are obviously top 4 for a reason, the confidence in the predictions is solid, with the exception being Ohh Baby vs. DeciSiVe. But what's fun about DotA is that any team can surprise with an extraordinary pick or just a regular outpick due to bad timing/planning of the opposite team.

How is entry to cevo season 3 a $100 value?
#5 Are you mad cause I predicted against you? :p Feel free to prove me wrong. #7 I wonder that too, but that's what it said on their website. Perhaps Season 3 will cost lots of dough to enter.
Season 2 entry fee was originally $15/player (pre-register) and $20/player for late registration. The post was made before the entry fee (and prizes) were reduced.
is there a loser bracket?
#10 Yeah, there is a losers bracket. :)
should be a fun tourny.
Pokerstars-1st eg-2nd 3rd-decisive or pz but I bet on decisive cause they beat pz in regular season. Ohbaby is not equally skilled as decisive lol
wow regarding the teams i have to admit the north american dota scene is very good
basically Decisive is not Damage inc, but they're sponsorless. and by saying they're = to ohhBABY that's a joke. rofl. even tho i like kainin, and i think they are better than i had expected, i wouldn't compare them to decisive.
did this article seriously just say decisive is equal in skill to ohh baby
Hah, I know these reactions would follow. Obviously DeciSiVe is a strong team, but I think Ohh Baby is underrated.
#19 is nerdy
#18 is nerdy
Decisive gaming will end at the bottom.
