Julmust, Banelings and Fireworks

Here we go again. I must say, I get less and less excited for this event for every year, but I still can't make myself stay at home. It feels like I'd be missing out, which I most likely will. This time it was worse than usual, though, since they cut my little baby here at DreamHack, the SC tournament. I think I will rant some more about that later, but for now let's just say I'm pretty angry with DH admin.

Julmust is this event's drink apparently, I'm even drinking it before December myself, which is rare, if it has happened at all. But pepparkakor comes best with them, and Raistlin bought some pepparkakor so what shall a poor girl do >_<

Failure: Pre-DH
Created 27th November 2008 23:02 (Updated: 28th November 2008 11:26)

Tuesday:
I panicked. No way I'd afford a train ticket (and most likely not a bus ticket either), to Jönköping, and I had no other way to get there. Wow. failure. Started to look in the crew forums for DH crew to find someone who'd go with car from Uppsala or Stockholm; perhaps someone would have an empty seat for me to fill. In the afternoon I also realised I needed to meet up with Mazor to get the GG.net banner, the GosuCam and some other things I needed to bring to the event. A lot of calling both him and the guy I finally ended up going with (phew) to the event I was finally set. Time to start packing. I was totally lost by then, no list, no nothing. It's a wonder I didn't forget anything important. Like the computer, or something.

Wednesday:
Got up early to not miss the train, packed everything and went off to meet up with Mazor on the big square in Uppsala. Get a phone call on the way, "I'll be late, meet you at the train station instead", not at least stressful, I promise :D I got the things I was supposed to get, got on the train, and just sat there for about.. Uhm.. 45 minutes. Train refuses to leave the station. It took me almost 2,5 hours to get to Stockholm, instead of the usual 40 minutes. Luckily my car guy could pick me up in the centre of the city instead of where I was supposed to go to, so things worked out fine.

A lot of classic LAN/DH music and funny conversations later we were in Jönköping, and Raistlin and Alak came to pick up my stuff for me (<3Puppies) by the B-hall entrance. We waited some, had a meeting with the DH crew, one with just us, and then the big final DH crew meeting which was only 1,5 hours late this year, wow! =D Went to bed early and slept like 8 hours, which is the double of what I usually slept. Got to borrow Nesseman's groundsheet to not freeze at least, even if I had no air mattress until the next day when my other friends arrived here from Gothenburg.

Vilda aka Tourist in Paris

Yeah, so my last day in Paris started at a decent time. I think we went out of bed around 10 or so, had breakfast sent up to the room (Mazor paid 9 euros for some juice :D) and met up with the GE guys to play tourists for a while before catching our flights. Mine left earlier though, so I only got to see the Triumpf Arch and have lunch at this little café kind of place. They had the best brownies I've ever tasted though, so it doesn't matter if the sandwich was expencive :D

I also bought a baguette in Paris, it was a must, and sent my round of post cards. Wee :D

Nice journey for once

Went back to the hotel earlier than the others, only got two hours of playing tourist in Paris, but hey, at least my flight didn't have a waiting time in my beloved Schiphol airport like the GE people did. Shuttle bus was late, so I had to wait for about half an hour before it left, but I got there in time and I got some help from a very nice guy in the information booth about where I was going. He called me madame :D

Flight went alright too, but I the food was lousy (ofc lol) and I was surrounded by eight in-line skaters who had been to some sort of big competition in Paris. They were Swedish though, and rather nice about it, but it got pretty annoying with their talking over my head all the way to Arlanda. One of them was hot though. He sounded nice, and seemed nice. His name was Alexander, and he lived in Stockholm (heard him talking to someone on the phone lol :D)

Bus went faster than on the way to Arlanda, and around 8:30pm I was back in my room on top of the Gothenburg Nation in Uppsala. Gosh, what a trip.

SC blog, as promised

Later, I'll write about it when I get the time to think and reflect of what I really thought of the game. Right now I can only say that it was so amazing that I can't even put my words in place to explain it. That's how good it was! :)

Regrets?

I wish I would've acted nicer to some people, when stressed out, and perhaps that I should've been more out going and went with the people to party at least one night. I also still owe Baal the 6:50 for my lunch the first day at WWI, I guess we'll have to figure out a way for me to give him his money back >_< and I also noticed when I got back that Vincent broke his legs. All of them. I kind of feel bad, I didn't even want to bring him, it was an accident! =( AND I didn't have time to meet up with my friends from Gothenburg who were visiting the city, it was sad, but I was really busy and they left before my last day so... It's not like I wont see them again ;)

But here I am, home at last, and I can't wait for the next event! :D

Over and out!

Last day of the event

So, the third day of my trip and the second day of WWI started rather slowly. We did not have any time to get to the event, or at least not as early as the day before, so we started slowly, and ended up at the event at 10:30 somewhen. It was right about time for the SC final taking place on the main stage so we went up there rather quickly, after checking out the site and talking to some random people. AND eating breakfast with some of the WGT guys. Or well, I ate, they worked.

Stork 2:0 Sea

Finals went very fast, Mazor went up earlier to get seats and then when I tried to find him he was long gone, so I ended up sitting in the middle of nowhere until I could reach him. And right when I did, I saw IdrA walking in, and I thought I'd say hi to Nicky, since he DID help me trying to find a hotel the day before. It just took me a little while to figure out which one of IdrA's followers that were him. (Too bad we didn't get to hang out more btw, Nicky!)

I also talked a bit to Manifesto7, who I for some reason ended up liking more than I thought I would (No offence if you ever find your way to read this Mani!) which was pretty uplifting. I have yet to meet up with a person from the BW community that I don't like.

This whole thing about being nice to people...

When we got back down to the press room I just sat down, and Mazor started talking about another one of the fansite Q/A's with the SC2 developers in a while and went to grab lunch before it started. I saw Mondragon, Dreiven, The1Crow and some girl standing talking and went by them to grab a sandwich. Afterwards I heard that it was ToT)Ore( which made me kind of sad with myself, because I didn't even say hi. I really have to work on that >_<

Checked in with thw WGT guys again and mocked dissy for wearing the sunglasses in the video interview they were watching at Crow's computer before running up to wait with the other fansite people for the Q/A to start. We audio recorded most of it, and had a live coverage from the press conference room and published the last infos.

No party in Paris

Later on people were talking about watching the soccer game together but after discussing it some more we decided just to have dinner, Me, Mazor, The1Crow and Dreiven went out to grab some food. We found this cute little Italian restaurant near the WWI area where we ordered water without gas and pizza or pasta. Mazor talking half way Spanish French and Me and Dreiven not understanding shit while The1Crow actually understood the French, at least decently. I had a great time with it anyway. :D

Apparently all the players and all the SC people there at all were gathering the last night at the player's hotel, meaning that I missed out on the fun, again. I'm not bitter though, I'm sure there'll be more times and more events. I'm glad I got to watch the game in the hotel room and go to bet early actually, since I really needed that sleep for the day after.

Ok, so what happened since last time?

More waiting

Well, first off: Schiphol is not as funny as it sounds like >_< not after 7 hours, and another delayed flight. We had to wait for an hour before we could part and then we couldn't fly straight for some reason, so instead of 1:15 flight, we got 1:30.

This meant that when I finally landed, and tried to find the buses, there was only one poor little mess of a girl in the information desk at the airport in Paris who hardly spoke English at all. Took me about 10 minutes to make her realize where I wanted to go, and another ten to give me directions that I understood. She did NOT have a map over Paris or the airport, great.

It worked though, I got to the hotel, texted Scott for like 3-4 hours, ran out of credit on my cell, went up to his room, knocked the door in (almost) waited some more, rang him, and THEN I figured it might be nice to get some more credit for my cell. SO I went online at the hotel, in the lobby they had some random thing. 15 minutes costed me 19:75 euros, anyone wanna do the maths for me? (=EXPENSIVE!)

Anyhow, it ended up with me finally reaching Mazor, and I finally got some sleep, around 1am.

Shuttle buses are very nice creatures

So, we woke up, got read and went down to the lobby around 8:00 cet, but of course we did not end up on a bus to the event area until somewhen after 9 am. I did talk to a very nice guy in the lobby, though, I don't remember his name, but he was some sort of a journalist in an online paper, focusing on gaming. The bus in question was veeery small, and full of Asians who talked a lot, pretty loudly. Their translator or something helped us find the way to the press entrance before disappearing totally, I haven't seen her since.

Right before we went inside we saw some people walking by, and Mazor stopped one of them to say hi, when I turned around I saw for myself it was Mondragon. Number one on the list of people I knew would be there. Inside we met Manifesto7, chill and Kennigit from TL while waiting for our press badges. I sat down, the first thing I did was sitting down at one of the press rooms' SC2 computers to play. I'll write more about that later, because I simply can't put it into words yet. But I did indeed play SC2. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

People are awesome

Inside the press room we started booting up out computers and Mazor left early to get good seats for the opening ceremony that would - at least so we heard - include the announcement of Blizzard's new game.

I saw The1Crow from MyMYM, and ended up going with him and his partner in crime for the event, Sophie, when they went out to the event area looking at stuff. Saw Manifesto7 walking by and was so happy that I recognised someone that I went over there to say hi, and ended up standing face to face to Tasteless. We walked around and looked a bit at the place before heading over to where the player room, but unfortunately I didn't get in there, OR backstage on the main stage, so I went over to Mazor and found our seats. There were a lot of SC fansite people there, such as the guys from SC2 Forum, SC.org and SC legacy.

A pretty cool ceremony and awesome announcement of another game that we are not covering later I again stood without anything to do, until I realized that time was almost 1pm, meaning the SC tournament's first match would be played on stage upstairs very soon. Grabbed the camera and went up there, took a lot of pictures (two of them actually got published, WOW!!) and watched some pretty good and casted StarCraft games.

After some guys wanted Tasteless' autograph and like some of you may know, I've been wanting one of those for YEARS so I finally got one. I'm gonna put ont he wall or something. Maybe sleep with it underneath my pillow! :D

Bierded Americans, pigeons and kebab

A little later I finally met up with Scott, after a pretty long while with not knowing where he was, but that he was at the event. Earlier he referred to himself as "the bearded guy with all the piercings" which actually turned out quite true. It seems as if lack of communication from the day before were just misunderstandings and the phone line not working properly for me in Paris, so I'm hardly mad at him anymore. Hardly.

Him, together with the other "WGTour people" (baal, jaap, error and jump) were heading out for lunch so I tagged along. Kebab in France, tastes just like chicken, I promise! I actually told Alex about that later on, and he didn't even know what kebab was, he refused to believe he'd eat some "random French food" :D Scott played with the pigeons while the rest of us social beings finished our lunch and when the whine got too much we started to head back to the WWI area.

No TL.net meeting for me

After that I watched some more games, took some more pictures, talked to some more people, you know. The usual event stuff. And went to a pretty good Q&A discussion thing with the other fansite invitees, together with Karune from Blizzard. You know, just random stuff. ;)

When it got a little later, I suddenly had to make up my mind about what to do during the evening but after a lot of asking around and whatnot I ended up being way too tired to do anything fancy or even partying-LIKE so I went with the GE people to have pizza somewhere close to the hotel. I paid 11 euros for a pizza, never thought that day would come :D

Got back to the hotel around midnight and fell asleep right away, apparently I can sleep alright here.
